i would assume if it has that tank...a key would be provided by the mfg.
Well I thought he may be talking about the Urea tank I did not know it had a special acronym DEF. now it is all clear. My understanding was this was a holding tank with a removable cap to refill. I have heard about every 6 months they need refilled. Maybe on his model it is a dealer only thing and he can not top it off. Another member posted with a Mercedes chasis his was about $150 to have serviced at the dealer.
Assuming you have a Solera, the "key" to the def tank is underneath the floorboard on the passenger side with the tool kit.
DEF is Diesel Exhaust Fluid and is used in late model diesel powered vehicles. There is an injector that squirts def into the tail pipe and cuts down on noxious fumes and gases.
I had seen the key but never imagine IT WAS the key. There was a round empty space just next to it so I though is was holding the tool and it was missing.
For DanielFlading: DEF means Diesel Exhaust Fluid and $150 for service is very exact, I paid $172 last monday. $52 for the fluid and $99 for labour !
For Realebill: You were right, the key was provided, I was just too blind to see it !
Now that you have a key to the DEF tank you can purchase DEF and put in the tank. Sure won't cost as much as having a shop doing it. I think it sells here in GA. for about $5.00 per gallon, give or take.
I'm already afraid for the oil change. A Dodge dealer sold me a liter of Mobil 1 ME 229,5 for $16,00. It takes 13 of those for an oil change. Good thing it happens only at every 10000 miles.
Love's travel stops sale it for around $10-12. I went throught the same thing for about a hour turning and cussing the cap. Anyways long enough for my wife to find the owners manual and fill me in. Geez what would we do without our wives!!!!
