Maiden Voyage Blessings & Curses
Hi All - New owners (M&M) of 2013 MBS Solera 24R as we skipped about 13 levels from tent camping [emoji554]️ right into this new/used coach @30k miles from a local dealer. Yes we got a decent walk thru and did a couple short test trips but the fun began as we headed out from Oregon for the east coast.
The Good Stuff:
We have everything never need to stop at hotels or restaurants (except maybe tasty take-out) in these Covid times.
Setting up camp is a breeze at places with hook-ups
We can mostly park near enough to everything even in busy cities
Never stressed finding a potty [emoji372]
Diesel fuel is reasonable mostly
This rig holds ALL of my kite surfing gear...
We will NEVER get a speeding ticket [emoji41]
The Bad Stuff:
It rides like a junky milk truck with no shocks
You cannot run the generator while driving to use the A/C to cool the “house” like the dealer told us. We confirmed this in 104 degree heat with both an RV expert and also with the Onan / Cummins dealer in Boise. Something about poor air flow, so you can use the AC except when you need it the most. When it gets really hot the generator turns itself off like a jilted lover with similar pains.
The Big Foot stabilizers work ONLY with the keys [emoji360] in the ignition and turned “on”. the slides ONLY work with the keys “off” and possibly with the emergency brake enabled?
Went thru agony with SLIDE malfunctions ending in a multi-day stranding in SLC with dinette slide stuck “OUT” - tested everything from battery connects, switch, fuses etc. for continuity - reset the black/white control panel overrides with 6/7 pushes...NOTHING pulled off some of the wood trim trying to get to the motor then gave up...we were going to be stuck for a week as the rush of new RV peeps makes mechanics nearly impossible to find, we had an appointment out 11 days - by some miracle after trying everything about 162 times it slid in - NO explanation. Now we won’t use it and have canceled our trip until we can limp back home.
Oh and the annual service B is due - good luck getting it done anywhere - no openings in Oregon until September, no problem we’ll just stop in Boise - they laughed when we called, OK we’ll try again in SLC, nothing for 3 weeks. How about Denver? You guessed it - you can’t get it done ANYWHERE [emoji2959]
I have already composed the “For Sale Ad” about a dozen times as we haven’t gone a single day without some warning [emoji3544] light or other disaster making us rethink our choices...
Oh well at least We will NEVER get a speeding ticket [emoji15]
Discouraged from the start
