With just 4,000 total miles on the new rig, the 340 HP Cummins really isn't broken in yet. It sure does pull good, though. On the trip home from Bend, Oregon, to Lynden, Washington, we averaged just a tick over 9 mpg. I was getting 12-13 mpg with the Solera, depending on the terrain.

As for drivability, it took about 10 minutes for me to settle in. After that, it drove pretty much like the Solera…just a lot smoother. The longer wheelbase really smooths out the ride. About the only difference is remembering that I need to be 10' farther ahead before I pull over after passing someone. The side cameras really help with that aspect and the higher driver vantage point give you a good look.

Now, there is a bit more of a learning curve when you get into crowded situations (campgrounds, parking lots, etc.) but that is to be expected. Speeds are much slower in those situations and you have more time to plan and react.

2013 Solera

Hey Jim,
Just purchased a 2013 Solera in Bend at Beaver Coaches. Is that where you traded yours in?
