Slide Nightmare

The dining room slide on my 2010 Solera was grinding and popping as it went in and out, so I took it to RV Specialists in San Diego. They replaced the gears, but it did not fix the problem. Forest River tells them that parts for the slide system used in the 2010 are no longer available. So they contacted Lippert, who manufactured the slide and were told again that parts are no longer available. They said, "It was a short run of a Forest River slide, and they didn't keep it going, so there are no replacements."

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has encountered a similar dilemma and what if anything can be done.

Can you tell us what part is no longer made, and a picture of it would be great, It sounds like a mechanical slide if it is You might be able to have the part made at a machine shop... PS: when you deal with lippard they have no imagination. that part may no longer being made by there records, but most are pretty much the same, You might be able to use a part from a newer unit, there some pretty tricky people on here, and I know of one member that can make anything...He might be able to help you with a picture.

Well that's just great. Never heard of something like this - service & parts just disappearing in such a few years. I just traded my 2010 Solera a few months ago so maybe I was lucky!

I agree with the above post - surely the "parts" can be fabricated or obtained in some other manner. Problem with so many companies and "technicians" these days is that they have no creativity or innovation like they did back in the day.

First, you need to isolate the popping. If it's not the gears (which you had replaced) then it is some friction point. Older posts in this subforum, talked about welds breaking where the drive motor attaches, causing the track to bind on the drive gear. Seems the repair shop you went to, was clueless.

Second, can you, or anybody reading this post, find out what lippert refers to in saying "short run". What was the slide used in by the various companies supplied by lippert and when did the design change.

Third, if you can determine which part failed, Lippert will have the technical drawings for that part. The easiest way for you would be to get those from Lippert, and like others said, take them to a fabrication shop for build.

Thanks, Witch Doc. The part needed is the "Outboard Inner Arm (18 Teeth)." You can see a picture of it on this link to the Lippert Parts List.
http://www.lci1.com/assets/content/s...ts_Webpage.pdf.
It is part number H 296090. I believe this is the component used in current slide systems, and its compatibility with my slide is questionable. I think the shop is going to order it and hope for the best.
