Solar Ready Hook up

We have a 2018 VIBE that has a solar ready plug. Can we use this plug to install a 12 V solar panel to assist with charging the batteries and/or running the 12 V system?

If so, what size of solar panels can we use? Can we use multiple panels?

do a search, TONS of info. on solar. If it's the little black plug near the front and has a rubber cover it's good for about a 100 watt panel, and it might be wired backwards. If you bought it new there should be a brochure in your owner's packet.

you can certainly add a solar panel to offset some of your Shore Power or Generator needs for recharging your house battery(s), at least for the 12v lights, fans, and appliances, and 'when' there is SUN available...but, don't expect it to be something that powers those items DIRECTLY, as only your battery(s) power the fuse panel, and all your 12v items. The solar simply helps to recharge your battery(s).
A simple 100w panel might be fine, and you can 'parallel' more panels, but the deciding factor might be the solar controller since it is limited to the amount of amps for the output of the panels. Some controllers are 10amps, and therefore two 100w panels, on a good day, might slightly exceed that.

You need to do a little more investigating. You will need a solar charge controller which most likely is not included. Before you buy anything, I always recommend practicing camping off the grid for a day or two somewhere power is available if needed to determine what you requirements are. Then you can design a system to meet your needs. If you end up purchasing a controller get one that is 30-50% more capacity than you think you need so you have room for growth. One 100W panel will maintain your battery with and provide very limited 12V capacity.

I have and like the Renergy suitcase or similar. Includes a folding rack w/ 2-50 watt panels and 25amp waterproof controller. This comes w/ a padded case, we travel w/ ours on our bed. The controller is big enough to add additional panels later. These are very good quality. The portable ones allow you to move panels where the sun hits them and you take it w/ you when you move to another trailer. You can use the included battery clamps. If you plug into the Zamp solar ready trailer plug, you need is a polarity convertor. Check polarity w/ an amp gauge to verify polarity.There are 2 versions of the panels, $300 and $360. The more expensive one is newer, smaller and slightly lighter-same power and slightly more efficient. We have been pleased w/ the less expensive one.
