2016 Vibe 272BHS
I have tried several times to reattach lower skirt supports but they always fail during transit. The skirt flexes in and out while travelling down the road. I am concerned the metal will fatigue and fall off. The braces are hard to find and attachment to the main body of the trailer is difficult and seems to have been a pre assembly installation that can't be reinstalled . Since the metal skirt is extremely thin the original attachment to the brace wears out and a self threading metal screws don't hold. Has anyone come up with an alternative bracing system that will work? Has anyone installed an after market wheel fender type skirt over the wheels?
We may be talking apples and oranges here, but I have had a similar problem. I tried self tapping as well. Finally went to HD and purchased some round head sheet metal screws both 8 and 10 x 3/4 inch. Also purchased number 8 and 10 Tinnerman clips instead of nuts. Notice the clips are bowed. The flat part sits against back of the skirts. Simply screw the Tinnerman until tight. Pics follow.
I tried to get side shot of clip. Look to left at top of Tinnerman and you will see the part that grabs the screw and holds it in place. Second photo is where one of mine is placed. Another is under steps. Simply use black magic marker to color screw head. I use 8 or 10 depending on hole size since I didnt want to use washers. Hope this helps.
I have a Vibe also and that's what I did with the screws, if they come loose use some silicone sealer on the back side of the screw to lock them in, also I used car touch up paint with brush in black to resist rust
