I want to use only the electric heating element in the water heater. How can I be sure that the propane is not being used to heat the water? The propane tank would be on for cooking. Thanks.

the switches for your electric side and the propane side, are in completely opposite areas.

the one inside, should be the propane one.
the one outside on the WH itself, should be be the electric one.

DON'T turn either on without making sure there's water in the WH.

this is if you have a Suburban WH, which most FR products have.

This may help you understand the two different ways the Suburban water heater can work from....and the two switches for them.
