R-POD 196 sewer drain question
I'm looking at buying an R-Pod 196 after looking at many similar sized TTs. This will be my first time buying a TT with plumbing (previously only owned tear drops). Everything I looked at besides the RP had one sewer drain point with combined gray and black (separate valves of course). The RP has separate grey and black drain connections. To me the seems a significant inconvenience as you have to disconnect, move the drain pipe, and reconnect every time you dump tanks.
Am I looking at this wrong or is this actually an advantage? Maybe less likely to break or get plugged? Just wondering why it's different than everything else we looked at.

It's very likely the fabricator didn't install two dump valves to be an advantage to unit owners. It's likely the two tanks are too far separated to use a single dump.

Yes, depending on the floor plan layout, the grey and black tanks might be on opposite sides of the axle (one in front and one behind) and in that case, they will have separate grey and black dump valves.

That's the case with the 196: the black tank is forward of the axle and the gray tank is aft.
When dumping, most people will dump black then gray for the simple reason that gray water usually has soap in it and will help clean the dump hose after dumping the black tank.

Rpod dump
Short pieces of hose to a Tee and then a longer piece to the dump station. Run the black water first and then then gray water to rinse. Not great but it works.

I had a 182 G with the same layout. I used a Y connector for two hoses and then one to the sewer drain. When I disconnected, I flushed the black hose with my water connection to clean it. It's just a matter of doing the right steps sequentially.

I rarely dump the black tank at the campground because 1) it doesn't fill up that fast and 2) the sloshing around on the way to the next stop helps break up any poo pyramid that might exist. I may dump first thing at a new location. I have a dump station at my storage place where I dump before putting the Pod away.

We have dedicated black and gray dump hoses that we use on the R-Pod 195. We keep the gray connected and open while camping. Always rinse both out with city water after dumping. No biggie.

We have the 196 and I was skeptical at first about moving the hose from black to grey valves but I have gotten used to it pretty quickly. Just remember to keep the open end higher than the end in the campground drain as you move it over.

Two dump valves are a huge advantage. We fill our gray tank much faster than our black tank. If you aren't next to a stream or lake, it isn't a big deal to run gray water out on the ground. At a campground in Montana, they had a plant watering system to hook up to your gray water. My trailer dump valve cover came with an adapter for a garden hose, so you can water the plants. Some dish soaps have phosphates (a fertilizer that causes algae blooms in lakes), but Dawn does not. Ivory soap is also phosphate free.

Was this on an R-Pod? I've never heard of an R-Pod coming with a cover like that from the factory.

No, they own a Rockwood Roo. But they don't come from the factory, with such a cover either.
I'm assuming that a previous owner installed it.

Just note that in many places, this is not legal. Be sure to check the regulations where you are planning to dump before emptying any holding tanks onto the ground.

Our first two TT's with tanks had single or side by side hookups for both grey and black tanks and that was great. The last two, an Rpod 179 and this 195 have separate hook ups for each. This is inconvenient, but not a big deal really. We're used to moving the connection when we dump and things move along quicker than pulling out and putting away two or three hoses and a Y in our experience. Have fun!
