R pod axle info

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and about to buy a 180 rpod hood river edition. I have a couple family members who own rpods already so I have a good understanding of them, except for the axles. When looking at them, the weight stickers all seem to be around 3000 lbs and I understand they have a 3500lb torsion axle. That doesn't leave much room for carrying stuff if you're forced to bring water for dry camping. Of course 80% of my rpod use will be short desert trips where there's no water in sight.

So I've been reading forums for a while and have noticed that quite a few rpod owners from 2012 through 2016 have issues with their axles bending and tires not wearing evenly. Most of these were with the heavier rpods. After 2016 I don't see many.

So this got me to wondering, did FR change the axle or width of the axle mounts around 2016, or all these people complaining of bent axles nuts? I can't find any info on updates or changes.
