R Pod Glass Door

I met a nice couple while camping this weekend who had a new R Pod. I was interested in the glass door and asked how they liked it. They said they liked the look but the door comes unlatched when they traveled. I made the comment it may be frame flexing and asked to look at the door frame. The door comes with riveted hinges into the frame and about (I''m guessing I didn't count) 10 mounting screw holes. Their door had only three Roberts screws holding it to the rigs framing. This may have been the reason for it coming unlatch, they were taking it in to have the dealer to fix. Others might check the mounting of the door to framing.

I've been seeing posts on FB from people who have just taken factory delivery of 196s and other models and the glass door is gone. In its place is a regular door without a window. Maybe FR discovered that they were too problematic and reverted to a tried and true design.

I just took delivery of a 2021 196. It came with a normal door no window. I was a little disappointed not getting the black door. I just joined this forum tonight and seeing a post on this, makes me feel better that maybe they did not short change me. I actually think I like the full door better without worry of breakage or being dirty all the time.

If you want a little visibility to see who or what is outside your door without installing a window, a peep hole works well and only requires drilling a single hole in the door. That's what I did on my 179.

I spoke with the R-Pod factory reps here at the Rally about the door type yesterday. I was told they ran out of glass doors so they went back to the traditional doors to keep the line running. When the glass doors are back in stock they'll start using them again.

We have 2021 Rpod 196, and I haven't had any problems with the glass door thus far. It seems quite solid.
