RPod ceiling speaker replacement

I am wanting to replace the speakers in the ceiling with ones with a better sound. Has anyone located 6 inch speakers with a shallow depth of no more than 1 5/8"? The current speakers are only 1.5" in depth.

You can use extender rings. Then install really good speakers.

The plastic ring holes didn't match up with the speakers that I bought. I found some MDF 1" extenders that work great. I first attached the extenders in new holes. Then attached the speakers in separate holes. That means if I ever need to do any maintenance I don't have to remove the extenders, just the speakers.

MDF speaker extender

Picture attached. I don't know why the pic is sideways but it makes no difference.

Yes, sound is much better. It also helps that I found out how to adjust the bass and treble.

I'm interested but a little confused. Where'd you find the extenders you used? Did you cut new holes for the OEM speakers to install these? What'd you do with the original holes? Thanks.

You just screw the extenders to the ceiling, then screw the speakers onto them.

Got it - Thanks! You used new screw holes - not cut new holes for the speakers. Whew. And thanks for the link to the extenders.

Yes, you are correct. The old speakers had only 3 screws so they would not have worked with the 4 screw speakers anyway. So, I just attached the extenders first. Then attached the speakers to the extenders. I didn't want to have to undo the screws in the ceiling if I need to replace the speakers.
