Inverter Question

I just bought a 2020 Sandstorm 304gslr, when purchasing it said there was a 1500 watt inverter for using to run things without the generator on just battery power. I have a CPAP and do a lot of dry desert camping and do not want to run my generator all night but when I plug even a simple fan into any outlet it will not run. Is there anyway I can use my CPAP without running my gen all night is the main question I am asking. My unit does have 2 batteries and a 5500 Onan generator.

Do you have a residential fridge? If yes, that is what the inverter connects to and typically nothing else in a 5th wheel.

What cpap do you use and do you use heat and or humidity?

It is the ResMed Air sense 10, and yes it has heat and humidity I belive and I am pretty sure it has an 8 cubic ft fridge. Thank you for the reply and the welcome to the forum and I will search the threads now.

You also need to determine what batteries you have. Most dealers install dual purpose marine batteries that they refer to as deep cycle. They are not deep cycle and will provide disappointing performance with a CPAP with heat and humidity. If uncertain, post a photo of the battery.

Camper is stored right now and I will be picking up tomorrow for a Thanksgiving trip. Wife says CPAP a must or I am sleeping outside. I found an article on a different thread and may just buy a seperate batterya nd charge it. I will check my batteries tomorrow and see if they will work if not I will probably just buy a seperate deep cycle and charge it during the day. Thanks for the recommendations and the help.

My guess is that your CPAP could run off the Inverter at night without running generator.

Another option would be to purchase the portable power pack and use it, recharging it when you are charging the other batteries while running the generator.

Using the separate power pack, in my view, would provide a couple of benefits. First of course would be keeping your CPAP running while sleeping. Second would be doing so independent of your RV's batteries which may be low due to previous day's use and refrigerator running extra time during warm weather.

Another option would be to just purchase the DC power source that can be plugged into the RV's 12 volt system directly

Less expensive but does not provide the reserve that the power supply does. Using the "direct connection" would eliminate the possibility of overloading the existing 1500 watt inverter should the refrigerator kick on and draw excessive current while starting, while the CPAP is running.

I don’t know if you have a bedroom slide or not And if your battery house is close to your bedroom slide. Mine is so what I did is bought a dc-dc brick. I snaked the brick wire in thru the slide (close the slide enough to snake, then reopen). The brick is outside mounted under my slide to protect from weather. I then used the cigarette lighter to alligator clips to battery bank up thru vent hole in battery house.

From the sounds of things you already have the dc-dc brick which is what is recommended. Unless you’re going to bring that ‘extra’ battery inside, you will still need some way to connect. This way might work for you.

I don’t know what your cpap settings are and if you need the heat and humidity, I don’t and as you can see from the resmed chart it will draw almost no current. I’ve used mine plus a residential fridge overnight many times with no issues. I have 2, 6 volt, golf cart batteries with 210 aH...

And, my DW would also make me sleep in the truck if my cpap did not work..lol.
