09 F-350 good/bad??
Hello all,
I am about to pull the trigger on a 2009 Ford f-350 CC dually 4x4 with the V-10 engine. Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about this vehicle? We will be pulling our Coachmen 28dds which is about 7k loaded. I know fuel mileage will be terrible, but it will not get many miles other than when pulling the camper. Thanks!

I've towed with our F250 V10 for a season and a half...camper is a 8500 lb 5W. The V10 is decent for power, tested it last September towing in the White Mountains in NH. The fuel mileage with our 2WD and 4.10's is 8-9 mpg towing, 12.5-13.5 mpg non-towing (hand calculated per USG). The F350 is heavier, higher rear ratio so the fuel mileage will be worse.

The one I'm looking at does have the same 4.10 axle as yours but I'm sure the big dually hips and 4wd don't help.

I echo this. Had a 2010 f250 with the V10 and 4.10 (4x4 CC). Had no problems towing our current 5th wheel and my mileage was almost exactly what Dave_Monica stated here. Your mileage will probably be a little worse but the motor is rock solid.

I checked the Trailer Life towing guides (2010 as the 2009 seems to be corrupted)) and the only rear ratio is 4.10, which suprises me that they wouldn't offer the 4.30 to compensate for the extra weight.

Mileage will suck, but gas is cheaper than diesel by far. Personally, I am a Ford 7.3 diesel man. Would have nothing else. I pull a 40' Wolfpack all over the United States for work loaded to the gills as my wife and I spend 300+ days on the road for work every year. It has 394,500 miles on it, and even though it has an automatic transmission, other than replacing the block heater, the glow plugs, and normal maintenance items, there has never been a problem. IMO find a clean, well kept 1999-2002. They will never let you down.

On my V-10.....pulling my 5ver with my F350....I get about 7.5-8.5 towing and about...15-15 empty.

Why such a big truck? Do you need a 4X4?
Your trailer isn't a fifth-wheel, so do you need a pickup if it's basically a dedicated TV?
The V-10 is a beast, but when someone uses the word "decent" and power in the same sentence, I read it as power that is "nothing to write home about", which I have heard from other V-10 owners, including my old neighbor in the US.

I need this big of truck cause I pull a 5th wheel thats around 10K...the V-10 pulls very well and considering how much the truck and 5ver weighs...the mileage is not bad. And I use 4x4 all the time.

I don't NEED this big of a truck but I am tired of playing the weight game and would like to have a truck bed to put firewood and bikes in. Looking at the drivetrain on paper it has less horsepower but a little more torque than our Sequoia. Of course it weighs a lot more as well but payload capacity is what I'm after at this point. I do value 4wd as it get used fairly often off road and in the hills.
I have a test drive planned for today so we'll see how it goes!

2003 Ford F250 Crew Cab 4x4 7.3 deisel
I have a 2003 Ford F250 CrewCab 4x4 deisel 7.3 with approx 230,000 mi. I am on my second 5th wheeler 0ne 32ft and now 33ft. I did have to replace the trans. at approx 160,000. Other than that it keeps on towing.
When I was younger growing up I told myself, I would never buy a deisel. As I got older and thinking about buying a trailer. I was researching on what tow vehicle to buy, at that time it was buy deisel. So I bought a deisel. I dont think I will ever turn back to gas, on a tow vehicle

I "stole" the rainbow pic. That's gorgeous! Your truck is what I was thinking would be suitable, but I'm not a 5th-wheel expert.
Trucks like these would be outright funny in Korea! I could run over anything i wanted!

I referred to the V10 power as decent for towing as the torque of 457 ft/lb at 3200 is better than V8's that tend to have a lower peak torque at a higher rpm. But compare that to a diesel with 650+ ft/lb of torque at 1600 rpm...

Not to start a deisel vs gas war but you should be more than happy with the V10.
You will have lots of play should the next bigger rig syndrome take hold.
We have our V10 2009 Ford F250 almost exclusively for towing the 5th wheel. Sure mileage is worse than the deisel but also $10,000 cheaper to buy, plus no stink from refueling, cheaper per gallon and easier to obtain fuel. Have heard some horror stories by folks looking to get deisel fuel in remote areas. Hence the added tanks on board.

You guys all make me jealous! Not like I'd need a big truck here. The furthest I can go is to Busan, which is ~400 km, or 250 miles!

this second pic is looks like an amazing place to camp!! I have owned 3 ford diesels 7.3's and still own 2. my current tow rig is a 99 f350 dually 7.3 diesel 6 speed manual only has 80k miles on it and my other is a 95 250 7.3 auto. the one before was a 5 speed and I don't want another auto if it that e40d or 4r100 auto just not enough gears for me. once you pull with the diesel you won't go back. i would stay away from the 6.0 diesel and if you go 6.4 then check around and delete those problems which is pretty easy to do. I have a good friend with the v10 and he likes it all around but pulling through the mountains in colorado he wasn't impressed compared to the diesel.

!!!!!! yep and the 6.4 once cleaned up and properly done. well if you get it with less than 30k miles on it and delete the problems that is imo. but the 7.3 is old reliable.
