We went the other way- left York, PA and got to Jefferson, OH yesterday. We are here for 2 weeks.

It's been an ugly rain all day. Everything is sopping wet and ugly. Supposed to be hot by the weekend, though.

Resort on Thur-Sunday, then scheduled to hit road for month long road trip to the north from Houston on Sunday but may have to wait few extra days due to wife DR visit. So all have fun! If we do hit the road, I will be asking for tips for camping and places not to miss as we travel. Route unknown at this time, one destination to visit friends is MN. Other than that, which way the wind blows.

Just got back from 8 days at Huntington Beach SC.. Our Rules are we generally avoid traveling / camping on the big holidays (labor day, Memorial day, and 4th of july) Usually everyone is gone those weeks, so the week before or after is generally less stressful.

Not on your life. Around here "Holiday Traffic" starts on the Thursday before the holiday, takes a brief break, then resumes the Saturday/Sunday after the holiday. I'm talking 10-15 mph speeds for miles and miles, extending half way across our State (through one mountain pass).

Campgrounds are already filling up.

I prefer to stay home and stand ready with a water hose for the actual 4th. Over the last dozen years I have never failed to collect less than a 5 gallon pail of debris that has fallen out of the sky on roof and lawn. I live within 3 miles of an Indian Reservation that sells fireworks that are illegal everywhere else in the State and their stands are pure "Idiot Magnets". It sounds like a fire-fight that includes mortar and artillery bombardment from mid-afternoon to well past midnight around my house. We average about 4 house fires every 4th, not to mention a dozen or so injuries and uncounted grass, brush fires.

I'd rather stay home and make sure I have a house left rather than go fight the traffic and crowded campgrounds. That said, I do have a nice campsite reserved for the Monday following the 4th. A national forest campground with nothing but the campsite and a picnic table. Not even potable water available. Nice and primitive but alongside a beautiful creek. Should be extremely peaceful.

Like TitanMike, not on your life.
For short trips, a week or less, we always avoid holiday camping. Campgrounds are full, prices always go up (I've seen double at some of the more popular campgrounds), and this coming July 4th its gonna be HOT!!! Either trapped inside with the ac running full blast, or under the awning hoping for a breeze.

I am blessed. I live on a beautiful lake here in Oklahoma. I'm not going to get out and camp on this holiday. I will set on the deck, on a bluff, overlooking the lake and enjoy not being out there with all the craziness.

To all of you who are traveling, enjoy and be safe!!!!!!!!

NEVER!
We avoid camping on holidays and during the summer.
Too crowded and too many knuckleheads.

10-4 on the knuckleheads. They all seem to bring "Megawatt" portable stereo's with them too.

We leave Friday headed home the following Monday. We live near the beaches so we always travel in the opposite direction. Plus its a hour away so it may take up to 2 hours to get there if things get rough with traffic but not usually. Knuckleheads and rookies at the campground is also expected but I like the entertainment as long as they leave me out of it.

I'm bucking the trend in titanmike and bikendans suggestion and getting on the road Saturday morning and coming home Friday. Traffic may suck, but Winthrop, WA will be good weather and no fireworks!

I will avoid I-5 at all costs and if stuck in North Cascades National Park, I've got my binoculars.

Campground is full, but reservations made last year. Then leave for trip after the holiday. 4th falls on Wed, so normal holiday rules moved up, should not be bad after the 1st.

We head out on Friday for 10-days, going to Bar Harbor ME until the 4th and then we are going to another spot in Lebanon ME.
Looking forward to it, we will be right on the ocean in Bar Harbor and on the side of a river in Lebanon.
Truck is loaded with mountain bikes, kayaks and tubes, plan on using them all!

We went to the Ashtabula rally up that way, nice area with all the covered bridges, driving around we found some of the best apple cider.
