A/C Filters

Has anyone come up with an alternative to the flimsy foam filters the Dometic air conditioners use? There has too be a better choice.

As far as change, Dometic would have to change the design of there return grill because the area is too tight to install a filter with a frame. One good thing about the Carrier units is that there is two filters side by side and the filters have a plastic frame around them and they slide out easily. Carriers filters are not foam, I am not sure what type of material they use. If you install a filter on the out side of the return grill with a frame be careful not to use a filter that is real thick because a thick filter could restrict the return air and cause the a/c unit to freeze up. The foam filter work ok but it takes a little more time to deal with. As long as you stay up on the filter cleaning your problems with the a/c system be minimal not only in your RV but in your home as well.

Maybe this? http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...r-filters/2033

Also, you might try cutting down a slide-in filter from a wall air conditioner. A little crazy glue and a bit of fabrication might be needed to round out the cut-down frame. Don't think thickness would be a problem.
