A dead worm

So how does a dead worm get into the galley plumbing under the sink? I bought a new expensive cheater vent. The smell was coming away from under the sink and was noticed under the food storage cabinets. We only noticed it when we emptied water from the kitchen sink. I then pulled the p-trap and cleaned it and then pulled the horizontal piece which led to the downflow of the waste water. Inside that horizontal piece is where I found a DEAD WORM. YUK !!!!
