My wife says we spent the night in a parking lot in Nebraska( on our way to

Oh great.
Now we have to form a State Sticker Police to enforce the rule...once we decided on one!

When we got our latest camper we decided to go with the “sleep in the state/province” rule. 3 of the states on our map are rest area stops (NE, AL, OK). We’ve been to all 50 but not with the camper.
As you can see we’ve slept around allot.

We're not going to decide on one. We may have 130K different rules.

We have filled our states in with the states that we have actually overnighted with a camper. We've had 6 different ones, so we include them all. We just got back from a 12 day trip to get in 3 new states on our map, LA, TX and AR. Would have liked to have gotten OK in, but ran out of time.

We have 2 rules for stats map.
1 wife says we have to sleep in the state.
2 see rule 1

I agree with Jenandjon, if you sleep over night in one location it counts but it also would count if you stop in the state and spend the time sightseeing.
Passing thru the state, definitely does not count for a state sticker.

Our rule...if the tires touch the ground we get the sticker. Took a 10 mile detour from Memphis to get Arkansas. This method has been my excuse to avoid backtracking our route to get home on the long trips.

"I watched a travel channel show about that state, so I add the sticker!" Uh...Ok. Now I know to look at other people's maps that are nearly filled in with great suspicion.

I too am on the "sleep overnight" bandwagon. For me, even a quick overnight stay at a rest area or Walmart counts. Sometimes, I'll take a slight detour off my route if it means I can spend the night in state I haven't slept in before.

State Sticker
If my feet hit the ground in a state, the sticker goes on.

So---
Flying to Hawaii and renting a camper there doesn't count?
DARN!

I was on base in Hawaii once. Walking through the housing area, I noticed an RV parked at someone's house. I assume, either he or the govt paid to have that thing shipped there. And, like behindbars said, I don't think there were any RV campgrounds on Oahu.

I spent an hour in the Honolulu airport at midnight. Somehow I doubt that would meet most folks’ criteria. But dangit I’ve been to Hawaii!

We've had the kids to all 50, plus a couple provinces. Key sightseeing in all of them, overnighted in all but a few. I've only camped in 14 (and 2 provinces). It's funny, though: two of the places we camped were in cabins at campgrounds, and I wouldn't think to not list them. We've also stayed in places that made one of those cabins seem like a 5 star hotel. But we weren't camping in those places, we were hoteling badly.
Your map is your map. This one means a lot to me, although DW's idea of it has many more states colored in.
