When to add sticker

If it was the intension to place the sticker when you spend the night or put the slides out. My only question would be why do they give you the Hawaii sticker, it would be very difficult to put the slides out in that state!

To keep this honest you need to have signed witnesses statements for every sticker and a photo documenting that with the GPS coordinates. Plus the stickers should be non-transferable. Get a new camper and you start with a blank slate.

Or just skip the states and provinces and use countries. So much easier.

Or say the heck with it and just use a sticker for every place you've ever camped or slept outdoors with or without whatever you own now. Where can I get a Pkeiku Province sticker?

I believe you need to decide on what the purpose or goal is. Such as: passing through a state, staying overnight, visiting but not staying overnight, etc. If we were to do it, our preference would be visiting, exploring or attending specific venues, National Parks, etc. Not just a pass through stay at a Walmart or CG.

If we overnight at a Cabela's or Cracker Barrel we do not put a sticker for that stop. Only actual destinations make the cut for us.

If you travel in a state you can add the sticker.

Your thoughts
When we purchased our 1968 Airstream Overlander in 1994 she had a map on the wall with every where she had spent at least one night in a camp site. That was the rules the previous owner had. We decided that the map stayed and we add on any new state she stayed over night in no matter where that might be. And it just happened she only ever spent the night in a camp ground. When we sold her in 2016 she only had 3 states to complete the map. When we purchased our Cardinal 5th wheel we used same rules, the RV had to spend at least one night in a camp ground or boon docking to get a sticker and a new map must begin. We also have a US paper wall map, in our office at home, with ALL our ROAD trips marked. Every road we traveled marked with a highlighter, no matter if we were in RV camping or just exploring in the Prius . You make the rules for your adventures. .

I used to do a lot of flying (traveling) for work. Pretty sure I've flown across every state in the US. I'll just fill my map with every state from that. Seems it would equate to those that just drove through.

Soo---
I travelled extensively when I was working.
I've never been to Georgia -- but I flew into Atlanta on a connection flight, never left the airport. Did I visit Georgia?
I flew to India, I had a connecting flight at Narita Airport in Tokyo, never left the airport. Did I visit Japan?
On the same flight I had an 8 hour layover in Singapore. Did I visit Singapore?
I've never set foot on New Jersey soil, yet had multiple connections in Newark Airport. Did I visit New Jersey?

I don't have a world map on my suitcase or a US map on my TT, for me (an this is only for me and not putting this on anyone else) visiting a place is different than stopping in a place. For me to visit, I have to do something while I'm there, feet on the ground, experiencing some of the local flavor.

Kris, using your clever analogy: No... if I just drive past a state, I don't say (to myself) that I visited it.

BTW, I don't have a map and stickers on my Wildcat. My only map is in my signature here on the forum... and it needs to be updated to add a couple/three states I and my Wildcat have visited.

Agreed. So I stopped overnight in the Food Lion parking lot. I walked around the mall, and tried some of the Food Lion fried chicken, thus completing the feet on the ground and experiencing 'local flavor'.

Had to get a state sticker map. This is my first RV, and I've seen so many RV's with the map, "well, I guess I gotta get a map!" Oh, and my wife still doesn't care. She thinks it looks nice though.

I suspect some of you are just sticker crazed! To you I donate all my old Colorforms. You'll have tons of fun, I bet they cling to Azedel RV sides nicely!

For me, if I was doing this, I think my rule would be as long as you stayed in a campground or boondocked somewhere for at least one night, even if not unhitched.

The last part doesn't matter for as as I basically always unhitch, and with the superslide that has to be open to access the bedroom, I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't be at least partially set up.

But if I stopped in a rest area and slept in the truck, I wouldn't count it. I also don't think I would have to start over with a new trailer, but I guess that is up to you. Is the sticker reflective of yourself, or just where the camper has been? Or is it both? lol

If they handed you a sandwich out the window as you drove by, you can say you had dinner as well!

Sticker map question

We also have one of the vinyl maps to track and remember our trips. We have decided that we will ‘add’ a map piece when we actually spend at least a night in that state. BUT, as others have said, it is your map so you choose how to use it!

Instead of the state maps I got a road atlas and highlight the roads I travel in a different color every year!

Our criteria is if you've been there in your rv whatever the situation. Besides that who want's to display an empty map

Map stickers

Spend a nite in a camp. Add a sticker. Parking lot doesn't count.

Isn't RVing about the journey, adventure and memories made? So my thought is- the sticker should represent just that. Not parking it for a night, but getting out and seeing the sights and what makes that state unique. If it's displayed for bragging rights then at least have a memory and story to share for each state.
