A sign of the times and perhaps what the future holds

A beautiful camping area was just closed due to overcrowding. Not just a little overcrowded either.

A separate radio report stated that this area has parking for 200 vehicles along the lake and in campgrounds. The road was filled with over 2.000 vehicles.

For those not familiar with the area it's in the SE part of the Olympic National Park and up a narrow road from Hood Canal. I used to camp there (in tents) when I was young and has beauty that's hard to describe.

Apparently it's become popular among those trying to combat "Cabin Fever" and of course our 80 and 90 degree weather of late isn't helping.

It seems like every camping location here in WA State is FULL. For those who aren't working it appears that camping is the way to go. Camping may not be as "socially distanced" as it once was and may well lead to increased closures.

Who knows.

Greedy states like Colorado would have improvised a toll booth at the entrance, and used a $10/vehicle fee (Fast Pass only) and a gate to regulate the traffic.

I've been reading of full campgrounds in many areas.
If you read posts on this forum, you'll see that many of these campers and visitors are people who have hotspots and tablets to enable them to work remotely. What better way to work and give the kids room to play? Selfishly, I hope the trend is down next year when we hope to travel again.
