A word of caution!!!

We had our 2008 Cardinal out this weekend and opened the manual awning for the first time. No problem till I went to roll it up. Just after releasing the lever to roll it up the awning took off and rolled up itself. The fabric strap snapped at the aluminum tube and tha awning shot off right up against the rig. Luckily it rolled up straight. but what a bang. All the cabinet doors flew open in the trailer along the awning wall. a few light lenses fell off, and no damage that I can tell. Be sure to inspect your strap for any signs of wear as it could cause alot of damage or injury. Can't believe it failed after 1 year.
Neighbor thought it was an exploision. Thats how hard it hit sidewall.

When I first read it I thought "you have to hold on to the strap" Then I re-read it and realized, You had the strap in your hand (at leaast part of it). Bummer. I'll make sure and check mine next time before I get ready to roll it up.

They must wear/break with some regularity, my Rockwood came with a spare awing strap. Which always made me wonder what a strap failure would be like, and now I know! Although I suspected something would get busted...

Not yet. Have to find a new pull strap first. I think only way would be to have person on ladder at each end and try to unroll it by turning support tube. I see Camping World sells the strap for 3.99. Can't wait to see what dealer in Canada charges.
I think I will replace this every year from now on. Never gave it a second thought till now

Sorry to hear of your problem Len...unfortunately Camping World only ships by UPS, so that $3.99 ends up being $40 more with freight, brokerage fees and taxes. Too bad that they are not able to send it through the mail.

Call the folks who made the awning and check for a new stap there.
We'd be interested in the price also.

You can open the awning by flipping the lever and you and a friend simply pull
out and down on the side arms.
It shouldn't be that hard. No need to try to turn the roller by hand.

Thanks for tip Dan.
Dave,
Just another adventure. Not too worried. Can't wait till the day they stop importing stuff from China. Lucky I found propane leak on Port side regulator. Pissing out of spring casing.(another part to replace) Concertone could be another replacement. Stuff barely a year old and it's the small things that are so annoying. At least I can fix them myself. Pity the non handiman rv owner.
It's a shame the Camping World near Buffalo closed Don't mind a trip across the border.Closest one now is near Rochester.

Thanks for the info on the Camping World store in Buffalo being closed...we hadn't heard that. We've stopped there many times on our way to Allegany S.P.

Hamburg location I believe

You can double check on Camping World site for locations but we were looking for something to do last winter and luckily we checked before we left. I believe it closed last October. Would be nice if it reopened. Funny I was at Sicards in April for the big sale weekend 2x and did not need anything. Now a drive out again for propane regulator and strap. As for the concertone it's too bad cabinet is only 12" deep as I have a nice Sony 5 channel receiver which I would like to install as well as a Blue Ray Dvd. Could use the concertone for night night I suppose. I have been emailing Forest River in regards to newest unit but they balked at giving any warrantee over a year. I replyed not a chance without a 5 yr warrantee. Any electronics I have at home lasts indefinitely and is outdated before it fails so why can't they stand behind the "new improved version"
