CarFax obtains the police reports through public record. They do not get accident reporting from the insurance companies.
Not completely true. We’ve had three deer collisions and one tree fall over the last ten years. None were reported, nor required to be, to police. However, all were shown on Carfax. But, at least all got “diminished value” payouts.
