Adopted a new camping buddy yesterday

We've been kicking around the idea of adopting a second dog. Our current dog is great, but we think she could use a buddy, and we wanted a smaller dog that can chill in our laps.

We decided we'd foster for the humane society, to see if we liked having a second dog, before we went through with it.

Friday we went to the humane society, my wife had done all the paperwork online, and they said to come down and they'd set us up. Well, we get there and they lady seems all confused as to why we are there and says they have to do a home inspection and that the person that does that is out of town.

We go back to the truck and the kids are all "YOU SAID WE'D TAKE HOME A DOGGY!!!"

Crap.

So, we said screw it, lets just bite the bullet and do it.

So, we adopted Tipo, whom we've renamed "Leela"

She's nicely lap size

and gets along great with our other dog

They've become fast friends.

She's an 8 month old Chihuahua x Rat Terrier cross. Super smart, we've already trained her to stay off the furniture unless she's on our laps. I also can't believe how calm she is for being such a small dog. She's spent today just sleeping in my wife's lap on the couch (wife is sick).

That was meant to be! You lucked out and got the dog of your dreams, forced on you by "paper work and bureaucracy".
We lost our cat about 3 weeks ago, my wife is upset yet, looks like we maybe looking for a replacement.

Yeah, for some reason the humane society didn't want to let us adopt a smaller dog than we already had. They asked how big our current dog was, and then said "well, we have a lab mix"

I had to expressly say no, I want a smaller dog. Bailey, our other dog, loves to get up in my lap on the couch when its cold out, and its hilarious but annoying. I wanted a smaller dog that could sleep on my lap or feet.

We adopted a 13 year old Golden two and a half years ago for a friend to our lab. Best move we ever did. Oh yea, she loves to RV!

Thank you for adopting! She may be calm now but may also get more hyper after she has had a chance to catch up on sleep and feel more secure in her new forever home. Enjoy your new camping buddy.

Like many others, you will find out rescue shelter dogs make the best pets. They seem to really appreciate being in a forever home. We had two pure breeds, one registered and by far our rescue mix is by far the most lovable and friendly. Never meets a stranger. We have had her two years now, 120 nights camping with her. No regrets, just enjoy the happiness she brings. Congrats on the new adoption.

New buddy

We have a great family member pet named Sprinkles! She's traveled with us round trip west coast to east coast and back twice (2015 & 2016)! And locally in our 2016 Forester MBS 25 footer we bought in early Fall 2015! She adopted us 4 years ago (she was 12 weeks old at the time)! We love her! She's not a dog! She's a family member! We've had to make no special accommodations for her! Less than for a young kid! In fact life is better! We mostly do RV parks with full hookups for convenience, comfort, and fenced in dog walks! We don't sweat hotels, and on and on... previously we owned 1991 VW Vanagon we restored and traveled up and down the west coast with our great family pet named Natasha! Natasha passed away from incurable canine cancer just about 12 years old! She raised Sprinkles for 2 years! We've owned tents and pop up campers over the years and always had a family pet especially as our 2 daughters were growing! Life is great with pets, but lots of responsibility goes with it (healthcare, attention, immunizations, trustworthy Veteranian, and much more)! But you save the life of a pet and it saves yours in so many ways! Dan Hatton, Colonel, US Army (ret) and my lovely German wife of 51 years as of yesterday Gerda!
