America the Beautful Passes.

America the Beautiful pass will get your wife and you into a park, both not required to have a pass. Yellowstone NP entry fee is free with the pass. Some state parks only charge pass holders half of normal fees. I have saved hundreds with that $10.00 purchase.

However, the one who signed the pass must be present.

sometimes I wonder. some spend 50K on a 5er, another 60K on a diesel dually, then worry about spending an extra 70 to get an lifetime HALF OFF CAMPING, FREE NATIONAL PARK pass. It doesn't make sense. I guess steaks once a week must not be on the menu

Husband and wife do not both need one as long as entering the park together. But if one should pass unexpectedly, the pass is non-transferable.

In some cases during the off season a park might have a 2 week maximum stay. -some parks- will let you stay another 2 weeks with the spouses pass.
It depends on the manager of that park and whether they are full or have open sites.

YMMV.

My wife got her pass a couple weeks ago at a COE local lake dam visitor center.

My husband and I each have our own pass. We visited Yellowstone 3 years ago with our children and their families. We stayed outside of the park and took two vehicles into it every day. I was in one vehicle and my husband in the other. It was free for both vehicles because we each have a pass.

Re park passes:
If you lose a Senior Pass, there is no way to get it replaced. When you purchased the Pass, your name was not recorded in any system. Thus a replacement will cost yhou $80.
The Senior Pass is good for (4) adults in the same vehicle. Anyone under the age of 16 is free anyhow.
The Access Pass is a free pass for people with disabilities and had the same free admission/1/2 price camping in all federal facilities as a Senior Pass.
If you can't pop for the $80, you can buy a $20 Senior Annual Pass. Buy four of them and then turn them in for a lifetime Senior Pass

And so far, everywhere we've used it, I've needed to provide my photo ID along with the pass. Not saying all parks require that, but we've visited a lot in the last year and those have required ID.

Last week, at Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, they were already advertising the $80 price. The $80 price is a bargain anyway, to say the least. We've saved hundreds over the past five years.

I can't speak for other land management agencies, But the NPS will always ask to see a photo ID in order to verify the ownership of a senior pass

We paid $10 a night for 4 nights 7 miles from downtown Nashville for camping. $10 a night right on the south shore of lake Superior. Have 2 nights reserved right on the blue ridge parkway at $10 a night each. Got free asmission to Wright museum at kitty hawk. Free admission to Cumberland Island national seashore. Several other places too. This alone is more in savings than the $80 fee for a golden pass. How is it that a retiree can spend a hundred grand on an RV and then complain about spending $80 to help support the National park system. I do know one thing. I would never want to associate with that kind of individual

I agree, $80 is still a steal! I think the sticker shock of going from $10 to $80 is what is getting people.

Bingo! I agree. When I first got my pass I felt guilty about getting into some parks so cheaply. I actually paid full price a few times just to support the park.

$10 doesn't even cover the cost of processing the paperwork and the card anymore. It is really amazing how some feel they are worth a million a minute while those serving them are only worth a dime a day.

I can remember my first job way back in 1970 right after I graduated high school. I spent the summer working at Sears demonstrating Weber Grills. I got paid $5 an hour. Gas was $.22 a gallon and most stations back then gave you a freebie just to buy from them. I bought my first new vehicle back in 72. It was a Mercury Comet GT with a 302 V8. Cost a whopping $2300

Now a days minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, gas is $2.50+ a gallon, that same style vehicle is over 20 grand, yet the very same people who complain about having to pay $80 for a Senior pass, think that the people who actually support their lifestyle EARN TOO DAMN MUCH.

Instead of feeling fortunate that they are healthy enough and have enough money to enjoy retirement, they do nothing but complain. I am sure glad I am not a sorry SOB who must be miserable all the time worrying about being nickle and dime'd to death

A little harsh, don't you think?
1. Not everyone has a $100K RV
2. MANY retirees sold their homes to purchase their RVs and now live on fairly meager pensions/Social Security.
3. People's situations change over time. One may have purchased a nice RV before cancer or some other financially draining event occurred.
4. Who cares how much some people complain? I might not quibble over the cost of a $7 latte while the person in line in front of me might think that's outrageous.

Time to unsubscribe to this thread. Must have hit a sore spot. Things never change, some are allowed to speak their mind, others not. Later. Happy camping

Too many people spend too much time worrying about what others do.

Just smile and mind your own affairs.
