AMP Power Step

OK So I just got my new Ram 3500 4x4 last Friday. It came without a side step. I had the tubular step on the Ram 1500 that I just traded in and hated them. I have never been a fan of running boards on 4x4's. I found the AMP Power Step while surfing the web and wanted to know if anyone was using them and could provide some feedback.

Considering the cost of these steps I wanted get some opinions from real users before pulling the trigger.

Thanks,

Dan

amps are the bees knees!! love, love love them....i have had em on my last 2 trucks, and got a set waiting to put on my new f250....

they are a little pricey, about 1k easy....but i love the looks, and have NEVER had an issue with my previous ones. They are the same ones that come factory on the platinum f150 and explorers....

there is another company that makes them, but i cant vouch for them although they are cheaper....i ordered the extensions for mine since my truck is lifted....wanted to make it easier for my dog, wife, and kid to get in ...not necessarily in that order..LOL...

I love mine. Weight is not an issue with these. I've had 2 people over 300 lbs on one side at a time and they barely flex.
The only two problems I've noticed on mine are:
(1) If you have a dually they don't block the flying rocks from hitting the rear dually fender as much as a stationary running board.
(2) They freeze in the up position when it's really cold. May not sound like a big deal until you go to step out to the icy ground and they aren't there.

Thanks guys! Sounds like they will be perfect for us.

@funkieJunk - That's why I moved to AZ ... Freezing is never an issue No more shovelling the white stuff for me!

i have seen others who say they can freeze in the up position and they have to "kick them" to get ice off.....out of mine i have NEVER had one get stuck due to mud, or ice.....granted here in west tx we dont have an abundance of snow usually....and if we do it melts in a day or so.....

i will also add it is very nice to be able to lock them in the down position if needed....like a standard running board....but i like mine up, up, and away as much as possible....and its cool when people say "you got a ladder for that thing" then i make the steps pop down, and they go coooooool!

That has made me want to sell/trade them. Although the damage is done now so I'll hold on to them until it's time to trade it.

I just like keeping the clean lines of my truck. The ability to tuck them away is what sold me.

I just got off the phone with my mechanic ... They are getting installed Thurs.

Did your truck come with them or did you have them installed?

i got nothing for ya on the rock issue....no dualie here...but they do really look much better than the overly chrome landing pads that came with my truck...matter of fact it just had too much chrome PERIOD!...hence why i powdercoated the bumpers to match.....

you will like them....and if not, even used you can probably get back near what you paid for them....although im not sure how much to install...i put mine on myself and orderd them from amazon...?

Parts and install $1,369 and they need the truck for 3-4 hours.

While I am there I am going to look at the Husky molded mud guards and see if I like the look.

I installed them myself. Actually did it twice, once on my 2008 SRW and once on my 2011 DRW.

It's 118 here this week and no break in sight with the weather so I am opting for someone else to do it.

I like the look of the Husky mud guards so hopefully that will save me from rock damage. I was only thinking about the rears (protecting the TT) till you mentioned it. So thanks for the heads up! That could have been a real "Duh!" moment for me down the road.

I see you've already got 'em done, but this is what I'm going with:

Rocker Pods Install

Rocker pods.

great protection, more storage.

Not a look for everyone though.....

Those look pretty nice!

Not the look I was going for but very functional for someone who wants the protection and extra storage.
