Yeah, if you don't listen with headphones, then it's a moot point, but if you want to listen and you need a special device to listen to headphones, either theirs or yours, that sounds "locked in to them" to me.

nope, I stick with android.

Excellent summary and why I'll never own an iPhone.

Galaxy S5 Active. Android doesn't try to take over your life as Apple products do.

I'd say Android. You will have a lot more flexibility switching phones or providers than you can get with an iPhone.

yup - this.
Also an android preference here and I've had both over the years. The charging need for ear buds (iPhone) is a deal breaker. I often have trouble finding places to charge - plugging in head phones so that device speakers are not in use extends battery life between charges enormously.
I have an unlocked (you can buy direct) sony z model. When it comes to time to replace I'll look at googles pixel phone or another Sony.

We use iOS/iPhones. We have no issues. I guess we're too old to try some of the slick things Android users do.

We have both in our house. My personal preference is Android for a variety of reasons. Mainly due to the available choices from more than a single manufacturer. I prefer the Motorola stuff, but have used both LG and Samsung with good results. Apple locks stuff down and you have limited options on too many things for my tastes. I like the new Pixel XL, but still use a Droid Turbo, I have been beating it to death for the past 3 years and it is still chugging along just fine.

I've had both and like Apple. I photograph with my iPhone and there are hundreds of post processing apps that will do everything photoshop will do and many are free.
I've also been a Verizon customer for many years.

Fitz,
First off: We have been Apple users since mmmm 1988?
iPhone. Period.
Why: simple a closed managed environment with no malware no hacks no...well nothing
It just works - everything - our iPhones, our iPads and our Mac. It just ALL works.
Now the caveat: if you "Jailbreak" your iOS device all bets are off. You now have essentially a Android device susceptible to hacks and malware. Simple fix: Don't do it!
Others will probably wax poetic about their OS and how it works for them but really the bottom line is Apple has never been hacked, has NO malware, no password skimmers, or other identity theft worries.
Strong words - I know, but truth. For simplicities sake, ease of use, and worry free operation my vote goes to Apple.

We use Apples iPhones. We just got the iPhone 7 plus 256gb, it should be a long time before we fill them up. Also have a Apple MacBook Pro laptop. I have Beats Bluetooth headphones. I got the iPhones at a good deal right at Christmas, I'm on Verizon, the extra large plan, I can use the phone in Canada and not have to pay extra. Son has Apple too, that's also a reason

Hey BamaBob! I usually agree with your posts, but you are just wrong in this one
Apple used to have the reputation of being hard to hack, but since it has become more mainstream, hacks are about as prevalent as any other OS. Just google it if you are in disbelief
I retired 18 months ago from working in computer systems at a university. The last few years we frequently worked on apple systems (laptops, desktops, phones, tablets) that had been compromised. Just the way of the world.
Is it a great OS? Sure!!! But definitely not un-hackable.

I had a Samsung android for many years. Last year I bought a iPhone 6 plus. Two months of Apple was all that I could tolerate. Gave the iPhone to my wife and I went back to a Samsung Note and could not be happier !
