Another Murphy Bed Thread
So has Forest River done anything to the newer ones to prevent this issue going forward? I have people that see our trailer and want one, but I'm concerned about the durability of the Murphy bed. Ours is a 2018, and ours broke our very first trip out. First it broke on the curb side (the side with the latch), I fixed that and then the other side bent, but did not break all the way through.
I apologize, I could not find the picture with the curb side broken all the way through, only the "fixed" picture.
One thing I noted, it might have helped some if they did more than just a couple of spot welds, but I think eventually it would have failed anyway.
I used 3/16" angle steel to fix mine. What you can't see on the bottom side are the huge fender washers I used to distribute the load across the aluminum square tubing.
Once this repair was done, the plywood upper layer that covers all this does not fit down like it was from the factory, but it has been no issue at all. Including the height of the bolt heads used to hold the steel in place, the deck is lifted 1/4" at the most from the factory location.
In one picture, you can see where the aluminum tubing is creased, right where the support underneath is. The bed was bent down, the crease is from me pulling it back up to the proper height.
