Ant poison

I've been in many campgrounds with an ant problem I see where people have poured a white powder around their tires and ground contact points. I'm curious what poison they are using. It appears it could be borax. I've always used liquid spray and commercial poisons with good results but wondered what others are using. These are tiny Argentine ants, sometimes called sugar ants.

Probably diatomaceous earth. That's what was recommended to us by a state park that had problems with ants.

Thanks, that sounds like it. I've never used that product but might give it a try.

Just make sure it’s food grade DE. Environmentally safe and helps with other garden insects.

A lot of people do use Borax, but a lot also use Food Grade DE.

There's a big difference between food grade DE and Filter DE. Be sure to get Food Grade.

The way I've seen it used is to make a circle on the ground around the tires, stabilizers, etc. Sort of a "do not cross" line for the ants. I've not heard of it being used on the interior so I can't answer that.

DE has no real repellent properties. DE is the silicon skeletons of tiny sea creatures (Diatoms). It works by injuring insects that move through it with the sharp edges of the skeleton. As mentioned it needs to be used as a do not cross line.

The information packet handed out at several campgrounds we have visited recommend Comet or Ajax around the contact points. I don't know nor do I care if it's environmentally safe, I'm just stating what info was given to us.
