Anybody have one of these?

Does anyone have one of these outlets that is standard on their unit? If so what brand/model do you have? I am looking to install one and Forest River has been no help.

I have one in my kitchen at home and love it. Spend some money up front on it and make sure the usb output is 2.4A each.

I have several in my kitchen at home, bought them at home Depot. My trailer has about 12 dedicated USB outlets throughout, all wired into the 12 volt side, so no need to add these.

I used this one from Amazon in my Grey Wolf:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

It has interchangeable face covers to match existing color.

You might consider this:
https://www.amazon.com/Insignia-4330.../dp/B00SVX31AY

Love it for being so portable. We use this daily 365. Being the cheapskates we are, we purchased one of these for both home and travel. That's one for both. No wiring. Take it out of the wrapper and plug it into the wall outlet.

Want it while traveling? Just take it along and plug it into any wall outlet. We have used this at home, in the RV and at the motels. Used it about three years now and it works great. Because it sticks out about an inch from the wall, we propped our phone on top of it.

It has surge protection as-well. The good thing about the Insignia brand is that it does not have LED lights to keep you awake at night.

With the limited space in the walls of today's R/V's you might have a hard time getting a outlet to fit where an existing outlet is. The USB models are usually pretty deep.

With the many wall tap options available, (outlets that plug into existing outlets) I would give them some consideration. PenJoe offered one, here are a few more...

I put one of those outlets like in the first picture on both sides of the couch in our 2504s. Plenty of room behind the hole to put a blue outlet box in. I also cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to make a backing plate for the very thin luan that is used. The outlet box swiveling doors and a little glue hold the 2 pieces of wood together. On the street side of the couch I also put in a second outlet (grey, others are black) below the original outlet that runs off the Inverter I installed. This lets us run a crock pot with a roast in it while on the road. Very easy to get to the back of the outlets from the cargo doors. Sorry I don’t have any pictures, the camper is in storage. Jay

They are pretty common these days, Amazon has several models. Costco also had them around Christmas. they are available in 2.5 amp and 5.0 amp. We like the 5.0 best since they charge our phones faster.

Installed two of these to run off of 12 volt so I can charge at all times. Easy to install and picked up power from a nearby light switch.

Be aware that the outlet you posted is most likely NOT a standard 110VAC outlet like you have in your house (and like Grey Wolf 26RR posted). (Or maybe I should say "The one you intend to replace is not a standard outlet.") It is known as a "speed box" outlet. They are used in RV's because they are quick and easy to install and don't require electrical boxes. The wires are laid into it and the back pushed on. Metal tabs inside slice through the wire insulation to make the electrical contact. So the wiring connections are inside. See pic.

Here's a video that shows how these work:

If you install a household type outlet, as Grey Wolf 26RR did, the wires are screwed to the side of the outlet, so you need to install a standard electrical box like this to protect the wiring connections.

There isn't always room for an electrical box, either, depending on where you're putting it. If you aren't electrically savvy, it's a lot easier to just buy a plug-in USB adapter as 5picker said.

All that being said, they DO make speed box outlets with USB. The trick is finding one.

This might be one, can't quite tell. Seems a bit pricey, though.

I have to ask why people like to install these USB charge ports. Does everybody lose the 120 VAC charging adapter that comes with their device? What are the variations in the output of the USB ports? Is there a standard charge voltage?

USB's are 5VDC. Some can supply more amps than others, though.

Not having to take a wall wart with you, and take it home when done, is considered a positive.

But my "wall wart" never gets separated from the USB cable except when plugging into a PC for data transfer and then I put it back on when I unplug from the PC. All our charging adapters go into a backpack with the tablets and some DVDs when we go camping.

The only reasons I can think of to need the USB ports are:
1) You've lost the wall wart
2) Having the USB port may allow you room to be able to still use both 120 VAC outlets. I've never had an issue with not having enough outlets to plug into though.

Every campsite does not have electricity. The USB receptacles Forest River installed in my RV are all powered with 12 Volt. A better solution IMHO.
