I'd like to camp out for it, but kids are in school. I've bought packs of glasses for observing the sun to share with their class, if their teacher oks it, as it will peak late in the school day.

If weather looks optimum, I may pull the kids from school and drive somewhere in the path of totality, and take the telescope....

But I guess I waited around too long, because every campground I've checked is booked solid.
Yep, we booked early at a KOA in Kentucky. Six of us, all from the Pontchartrain Astronomy Society of New Orleans, LA (PASNOLA) will be going in 3 different RVs to watch the Solar event.
Should be a good one if we do not have any clouds. I'm sure SLOOH will be on where you could watch it live :-) Order your solar glasses now before they are all gone. Sky and Telescope has them.

While looking for an RV park in WY for July noticed one RV park wanting $100.00 a night dry camping fee for the eclipse. Regular nightly rate is $35.00 with full hook-ups. They are taking advanced reservations via PAYPAL.

I actually live in Keizer Oregon (45th Parallel) and work in Brooks Oregon. There is a park nearby that is renting RV spots for the event. The area is basically a field but there are services within a couple miles. All spots are dry camping with no hook-ups.

I actually played with the Idea of renting my house out and taking the Motorhome to the park.... houses are going for $3000 a day for this thing... crazy money.

Going to be at Cascade Lake, Idaho. Our camping group has been planning for the last five years. My husband (an avid sky watcher) was the first to suggest the trip, but unfortunately he died in November from Melanoma. He will be with us in spirit I am sure.

Oregon state parks

I started at midnight trying to reserve a spot at a Oregon state park when it first opened for reservations by phone and online and never was able to make one.
Just recently received a email from them stating they had 50 spots open that they were going to auction off.
No thanks.

Keizer Eclipse 2017. Totally! - Keizer Eclipse 2017. Totally!

The link above is for the Keizer Oregon (45th parallel) Eclipse RV camp...
Friday to Tuesday for $300
Concert at the Amphitheater
Dog Park
Toy Play Structure
Hiking
Boating
BBQ
and other things going on...
Looks like you have to be fully self contained and no open fires but it should be a blast!
First place to see the event... and not usually fogged or clouded in like at the Coast...
It seldom rains in August...

Just a coincidence but we will be in East Central Missouri, Indian Creek Campground, 2 minutes of total eclipse at my house, only a partial at the campground. Didn't realize all of this until last month.

We will be there also. We will be working our way down there after the international rally with stops at the Air Force Museum and maybe Mammoth Cave along the way.

We're also going to the Sweetwater location. Timing was perfect since we are at NASCAR Bristol for the preceding seven nights then doing the two hour drive to Sweetwater on Sunday morning.

I'm an amateur astronomer and, for years, have been looking forward to the eclipse. The important information for everyone to know is that if you can get to the path of totality, do so. The difference between a 99% total and a total eclipse is like the difference between driving a Yugo or a Ferrari. YOU MUST USE EYE PROTECTION DURING ALL OF THE PARTIAL PHASES OF THE ECLIPSE. During totality, you want to observe the sky and the solar corona, which can be done without eye protection.

I didn't make reservations which turned out to be good for two reasons. First, it turns out that medical issues may make make extended, or any, travel impossible. I'm working on a solution to that problem but, even if I solve it, the unexpected second issue, a request for the entire family to attend an overseas wedding has eliminated the reason for us to travel to the Western US in August.
