Portable ice maker is one of the best accessories purchased for RVing...Those bullet shaped cubes massage the bourbon just right

Got ours from Walmart for @ $120. Works great and cubes aren't hard to separate when in freezer. As someone said, Beats the hell out of $3.00/bag. SKnight reminded me that ours is a Magic Chef also.

Got one last year. Only used it on the longer trips but it made a fair amount of ice. Only problem is the ice hopper is small so you have to empty often to get the most use of it, can't really change it too much though or it wouldn't really be portable. Overall if you find one on sale it's not a bad investment.

We got ours at Target. Works great, when not using ice, machine shuts off. I turn it back on when we need it and have ice in about 20 minutes. Wouldn't leave without it.

Bought ours at Target for about $100. Four years later still running strong. Sit mine inside a a regular plastic dishwashing tub in case of leaks. Never had one, but... It is a little loud but not too bad once you get used to it. I start my Gen about 30 minutes before we stop and start making ice. Keeps up with our use the rest of the night....

We bought a Danby ice maker 5 years ago, works great, set it on the counter and it has the first round of ice before I get the site squared away. DW likes her ice tea and we carry a Mr. Coffee tea maker as well. As the freezer gets lower from storage, fill it back with ice, seems to keep things cooler in the freezer. For you folks that like the other liquid refreshments, some of the ice maker make several sizes and shapes of cubes!

I use one all the time for drinks and to keep my ice chest stocked instead of running to the store to get ice at$5 a bag

One of the best camping investments that we have made. If we kept a block in our cooler (usually lasts for 4 or 5 days) we never had to run to the store for ice cubes. The ice cube maker paid for itself in one 3 week camping trip.

A friend of mine bought the Igloo brand and gave it to me as a gift. It came from Sam's Club. I works great. Dumps ice in tray every 13 minutes.

Ice Makers

We bought an Igloo at WalMart on sale at $89, but now it's about $99. (It's also sold at WalMart and Target under different names. It has a stainless outside and makes 26 pounds of ice a day. For $200-$250 you can buy the Dometic at Camping world. It produces 33lbs a day. We feel the $100 difference isn't worth it. Even better...our 2015 Georgetown comes with a residential size refer with a built in icemaker...now that's livin'! Of course, buying a new motorhome just to get a better icemaker...

Edgestar ice maker from overstock. It is a standard house ice making unit in a 3 cubic foot 120 volt freezer. I run it for the ice when we are on the road, and I run it w/o water during the freez (like now) to keep the rear bay warm. Often I will run it a half hour or so before landing when I am chilling down the coach by genset. Set up to pull water either from fresh water tank or city.

Been thinking about buying one, but the only one I have seen makes ice on a rod, so when you us it they melt almost instantly. It will make ice in 20 mins but it hollow in the center and melts in 10 mins. in a drink. It not like a ice machine in a refer. where it is solid ice are they all like that?

Yes. If we're meeting up with friends or family we set ours on outside table with gallon jug of water next to it. Makes 12 cubes every 8-12 mins. Got ours at Sam's for $99. Igloo brand but looks just like so many others with different names.

Makes ice in 7 minutes and you put them in the freezer. TOWTA does it in the morning and then starts using them after lunch. Works just fine. I just took two bags of them out and put in the sink to melt about an hour ago when we cleaned out the frig.

Yes, most make "bullet" ice. They are generally not "hard" ice like you get in your freezer and tend to melt quicker, but personally, it still beats the heck out of the alternatives... no ice or $5 a bag that will melt off before you can use it all.

You need to learn to drink faster.

Ice maker makes camping easier

We freeze plastic milk jugs for ice for our chests when we load up and leave. As soon as we get to our campground I hook up ice maker. It easily makes enough ice to keep two regular size chests filled. Saves money and time going to get more ice several times while you camp. I also hook up to the 110 plug-in on the power pedestal to avoid adding amps to my 5th wheel.
