Attaching plate

My trailer has 2 plastic/rubber flexible slotted tabs for attaching the license plate under the drivers tail light. All other trailers I have owned had metal tabs. Think the plastic will hold up? I attached the temp tag with zip ties but will be buying some nylon locking nuts/bolts to permenantly attach the new plate. Thoughts?

I have the same, it really depends on the plastic some will not hold up, some will out last the steel. Hopefully they will be good

I think you have a good plan. One of my tabs broke the first time I tried to install the license plate with the tag bolts. I did as you are planning and so far it has worked fine.

If the attaching tabs are your concern, then the strongest locking nuts in the world won't do you any good.

I'm only using the nylon lock nuts so the nuts won't back off during travel from vibration.

OK. I got the impression you were concerned about the strength of the attachment tabs. If not, then it's a good thing to do.

My 2007 Jayco had the plastic tabs. Sold the trailer April of this year and the tabs were still there.

I had to replace my lights. Before I installed the new ones I JB welded a washer and the head of a bolt to the back side letting the threads stick thru the plastic tab. I then used a wing nut with a locking washer to install the tag. Been towed 12,00 miles in the last two years with no problems.

that's a good idea, there is no room for the bolt to stick through towards the trailer so I did the bolts on the inside and nuts on the outside, not easy to hold the bolts
