Awning damage in Florida

I just want to share my mishap, backing into our storage unit and catching the awning on an I beam-post. I did a real number on it, but fortunately found a great repairman who works out of Tampa and comes right to you. I cannot say enough good about David. His response time was excellent as well as his communication with me as we waited for parts, etc. Please don't waste this man's time. He is honest and reasonable. He was able to salvage some parts and had to replace the spring, canvas and a few other items. I was just sick when this happened because I feared going to a dealership and having to wait several weeks just for service. PS - I won't do that again!

Just for GP, what was the total cost of the repair? It would give others who encounter the same situation a ballpark figure.

I did the same thing. Caught my slide awning on the post. Got my replacement from e trailer. Took about a half hour to change. Cost was about 250. Did the work myself.

Wow....that was scary

When I looked at the closeup......I thought the accident had actually hit the awning assembly arms SO VIOLENTLY that what I was looking at, was that the hit had ripped open the fibreglass sidewall of the RV.

I could see the ladder on the rear wall, and thought the side had been ripped wide open. Maybe it’s just my eyes.

Repair cost and extend of work

The entire awning was removed and straightened. The motor was okay as was the roller.
A portion of the arms were replaced along with the awning material and the inner spring. 20 foot wide awning with a 3 year warranty.
The cost was $1100.

Had I moved the RV once against the pole, it would have ripped it wide open. Sorry the photos are horizontal.

The guy who was guiding me to back in was watching the side of the RV, but not where the awning extended about 10 inches. I couldn't see the awning in my mirrors.

Glad you got your repairs made, however.....

Remind me not to hire your spotter for backing up. Where was he watching?
Why was your awning out 10””?
New lesson.......ALWAYS retract all slides and awnings before moving.
