Awning shade question

My husband and I are considering buying a shade awning to block out the hot afternoon sun on our patio area when we are in Florida for 3 months. We've done some research but wanted to find out the opinions of anyone that has used them. We aren't sure what would happen when we bring our awning in. Would the part of the shade in the awning track have to be removed because it would damage the awning or could it be left on? Wind comes up suddenly at times and we have to bring the awning in quickly.
