I have a question about the sway bars when backing up the TT. I have always taken off the sway bar (I only have one) before backing up the unit. Is this necessary??
I always did. I was told to take it off when backing by the dealer and that was backed by several friends. My thought was why take a chance when it is not needed. Very easy to turn to sharp on it and bend it. I now have an Equal-i-zer hitch and do not use the sway bar any longer.
from what i've read, the lower-end WDHs, that have a friction anti-sway bar, require unhooking it to back up. mainly as a precaution to bending it.
the ones like the Equal-i-zer or Reese Dual-Cam WDHs, don't require unhooking anything to back up.

I have used the Equalizer and Reese Strait Line (Dual Cam). They do not require unhooking while backing. It is my understanding that there are some which do require unhooking while backing, but only if you are making a sharp turn while backing. I have no personal knowledge about any of those, but I have heard that from more than one source.

ALWAYS take mine off when arriving at my destination, before any sharp maneuvering takes place to avoid bending anything. Also they tend to be noisy when pulling into campgrounds. Randy
Before I knew better I tried backing up with it on and never could get the tt where I wanted. The tt would swing to the side. Now any remaining swing is due to driver error but have to say that I put it right where I wanted on the first attempt on my last trip.
