Had two BRAND NEW group 31 "Deep Cycle" batteries stolen from the front of my trailer in my back yard. Thief opened an unlocked gate (my bad) and cut tie down straps with a knife and the wires with a pair of diagonal cutters (from the look of the cut).

The local recyclers don't even blink when they see brand new batteries with a date code only 30 days old on them. They hand over the cash and the local drug merchant has it in his pocket within the hour.

Now my batteries are secured to the trailer with a couple of Master Python cable locks.

By drilling the holes in the lids it allows the cable to sit right on top of the battery, between the two fill caps (3 cells each). No way to break lid and get enough slack to slip the battery out of the cable's grip.

To service I just unlock and release enough cable to flip the battery covers out of the way.

Battery Theft

I use these cause I keep my unit in a storage yard:

Well made from a family business. Just add a strong padlock.

Tip: if you ever think about going to 6volts, buy that bracket first. They will fit the 12v but they have a little extra room up top. That way you don’t have to buy another set. Ask me how I know....
