Black Tank Cap "Rubber Seal" Lubricant

I am having a hard time getting the cap (cover) off the end of the drain pipe before dumping black tank. Is there a lubricant you can put on the black cap rubber seal so it will turn easier. I have one of those wrenches to twist the cap off, but thought a lubricant would help. I have a 2018 25' Coachmen Freelander motorhome. Thanks for your responses

Unless you want a NSF rated o ring grease, use vaseline. NSF o ring grease Dow Corning 111

jeff64 thanks for the reply. Looked up the Dow 111 on Amazon, a little expensive. I'll give the vaseline a go.

Are you sure you’ve cleaned all the $#@& of the end of the pipe and cap?

You can also get plumbers silicon grease for cheap in small tubes or cans. https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Si.../dp/B000DZFUPC
I have a small tub in every toolbox and vehicle. It will not degrade o-rings and other rubber items as vaseline will.

Vaseline and the handles above work wonders for all sewer line joints. Valterra make a cap with a full handle

Thanks Sticaly Amazon has it, may order just to have if I happen to lose my current cap; or just to have on hand. Looks like you can get a good grip on to remove.

Thanks, yea I thought of this while reading all the posts. Will clean it an pipe up; But plan on buying the "plumbers silicone grease'

I just use silicone spray for plastic. That said, I've never had trouble getting mine off, so maybe yours is defective.

It's just hard to get off before draining the black and gray tanks. Like kenandterry said, maybe a good cleaning and then some silocon spray or plummers grease. BY THE WAY WHAT BRAND OF SILICON SPRAY DO YOU USE, AND WHERE IS IT AVAILABLE? Thanks thepeddler

I like one called Something Better. It comes out as a foam, which makes it easier to work with. You can find silicone spray at any auto store or probably Walmart. They all work. You can also get silicone grease, which is what scuba divers use for their regulators because it will protect the rubber diaphram and o-rings.

I take fine sandpaper and smooth the groove on cap. I also carry a slide wrench made for large diesel filters- like $12 off Amazon. My X TT the caps were low and under the slide, hard to get leverage. The filter wrench works great.

Yea, I don’t think the problem is lubricant I think it is the locking pin and associated slot with a nipple on it. Not sure what to call it but when you twist it on you have to get the pin that is fixed on your drain pipe to lock behind the nipples that stick out in the groove. I’ve found if you take a file and just knock down the nipples a little bit it will twist on much easier.

I’ve never had an issue with the cap but I have with sewer hoses and that is what I did to eliminate the issue...
