Maybe exploded isn't quite the right term, a buddy of mine was not paying attention when he was flushing his black tank, I don't quite understand what happened, but it built up pressure, and split a seam open, YUK! Don't think he will ever do that again!

Agreed, not sure how you would build up enough pressure to explode, however we all know methane gas is highly explosive. I wonder if he (or she) tossed a cigarette butt down the hole before it closed after flushing? If it was hot, the vent wasn't working very well, and you have a nice hot cigarette butt dropped down the really convenient little hole...HOLY %$^&!

Oddly enough, a quick Google of "RV Black Tank Explodes" brings up quite a few articles going all the way back to 2012...

I don't think that woman has kids. Crap, it's your stuff in the tank. I'd have probably slung it on her to give her a reason for all the drama. It's just poo for goodness sake. I got a very strong stomach and it just doesn't bother me. I've had incidents as well in the earlier days of RVing, but that's how we learn. I guess me and my kids are weird. My kids like to help flush the tanks, as they can watch the "stuff" drain through the clear fitting. And I always throw in a few comments while watching it, like yep, there goes thursday's dinner, oh and that was friday etc etc.

Right. If you define explosion as a sudden release of energy, it might not have been the fiery boom that we are envisioning. Could have been that the bottom suddenly fell out of it. Which would be almost as bad, I guess. Nothing to sniff at, either way.

She said they're in a Forest River. I wonder if they'll be at Goshen?

Black water tank explosion brings out best in tight-knit military RV community « ChristianAdventurer2
Never heard of this but guess it does happen, but what it does say is clean the tank every time you go camping and don't leave poo tank open when on full hook up. Make sure vent is clear and hasn't got plugged. If you bought your RV used don't trust the last owner to have done this stuff right, Flush the tank to make sure there is no build up. The only question I have is how do you make sure vent is working?

Get on the roof, remove the vent cap and shove a garden hose down it with the water on and see if you get water out of the outlet.

Before I took opportunity on hot days to see of pressure came up through the toilet when I opened the valve. No pressure means the vent is clear.

Now that I have a walk on roof I can see trying OC's way.

That came straight from FT Turbs mouth and Ms. Amy said he might not use it, but she sure does. So draw your own conclusions, Ms. Amy does NOT speak with forked tongue like FT Turbs does.
