Bought some new toys.

We bought our trailer last year. We had an amazing time with it. Many many weekend trips, trips to Eastern Ohio, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Had an amazing year with our trailer. It is now time to add to our experiences. We love boating, fishing, and just tooling around on the water. It was time to add two fishing kayaks to our arsenal of fun. I bought myself an Old Town PDL 106 fishing kayak. Iím pretty excited. I tried out my friends Old Town and it was pretty awesome. I decided to buy my wife the Brooklyn PK11 fishing kayak.

I was interested in the Brooklyn for myself before deciding on the Old Town. So
I bought my wife the Brooklyn so I could see for myself another brand. They both have instant reverse. They are both 10í and their weight is more manageable than the 12í models. I canít wait to get out to campsites and hit the rivers, lakes and ponds with my wife. It should be epic amounts of fun. Iíll also do a lot of fishing too with my buddy while we are out at campsites. But we will also use our kayaks on the Fox River down the street from our home.

Itís going to be a great year again but even better now than last year.

Iíve had a Hobie PA14 for about 5 years and love it, Iíve supplemented the pedals with an electric motor and added a ton of accessories for stillwater trout fly fishing.Click image for larger version

My wife and I bought two old town 106 pdl last week. Iíve researched pedal kayaks for quite some time and in our opinion there is none better.

Given their weight we chose not to bumper mount them on the RVÖwe like our RV bumper still attached to the RV.

Well that is pretty slick. I do plan on buying some accessories. I thought about buying the electric motor. But I love cycling and this will be a great way to fish and in a way cycle. LOLzzzzz.

Yeah. Iíve been reading up on pedal kayaks since last fall when I tried out my friends Old Town PDL 120. I just received my kayak racks from Amazon a few days ago. I like that they fold down and I can keep them there.

This is my native watercraft slayer propel, heading out of Barnstable Harbor to catch some stripers. I can stand up in it easily on lakes and ponds.
Have had it for years.

I have the Sevylor Quickpack kayak. It folds up to about the size of a backpack and sets up in less than 5 minutes. Very stable to ride or fish as well. Cup holder for a cold drink or bait. The best part is it easily fits in the pass thru as well as in the back of my rav4 or the back seat of the truck.

Damn. That is way cool. I should probably buy a couple of those for our trips out West. Those would be awesome for some hiking and kayaking!!

Bought some new toys.

A word of advise, if/when you have to service the prop on the water make darn sure the blades are oriented in the horizontal position. If not, the shear pin which locks the prop to the shaft has a very high probability of being express shipped to the bottom of the lake or river. Also buy a prop kit it has all the spare parts needed for this.

Have fun theyíre great kayaks!

CORRECTION- The blades need to be oriented in the VERTICAL position.

I have the same one, I love it! It's great to hike out somewhere and put it in a lake. Yup super easy to set up and break down! And it fits in my storage box.

Iím not 100% sure yet. I just used them for the first time this weekend with a two hour drive each way in heavy winds. So far so good. I originally tried using them with the kayaks standing up. But the fishing kayaks are so much wider and heavier than a small sit in kayak. It seemed way too top heavy. I did not like it one bit. So I flipped the racks around so they would flip outward and lie a bit flat. Both of our pedal kayaks fit much better, stable and rock solid after strapping them down.

Standing up was too top heavy and sketchy. Each kayak weighs about 80lbs. So trying to put the kayak up like that was brutal.

Flipping the racks around so they flip outward and lie flatter worked awesome. My wifeís red pedal kayak fit a bit better than my wider Kayak. I will adjust the foam for mine and make a few adjustments. Loading the kayaks flat like this was a breeze compared to trying to stand them up on their side. But overall so far so good. I think if the kayaks were he smaller, lighter sit in side type they would lie on the sides like normal. But our pedal fishing kayaks are just too big and heavy to do it that way.

We used the pedal kayaks this weekend. They worked awesome. The weather was super windy most of the time and we were able to easily pedal through the wind and waves. Very stable and lots of fun. I did not catch a fish though. I tried but no hits. Il try again in a few weeks. Great workout when trying to go as fast as possible. Kayak scoots along nicely when just casually pedaling. Pretty excited.

Good info, thanks. We have 4 weeks to make a decision on a rack system for our truck. I'm torn between the racks style you've chosen vs a saddle style.

I see you have the racks mounted with the adjustable/hinged part outwards and the bent/angled part inwards, any reason for this? Do you find it keeps them kayaks separated better?

Yes. I flipped the racks around to flip outward so I could just lay the kayaks flat side by side. It gave each kayak bit of a cradle to sit in. Worked out well. I thought about buying a Thule or Yakima cross bars. I did not want to spend that type of money though. Iíll just use these racks as I have them plus they are low enough where I can still go through my favorite car wash. So far itís win win.
