I always wonder how much length affects this height. Some bridges here are dipped....maybe a 20ft rig would be ok....40ft plus TV has to make me wonder when exiting the trailer will get higher.

Going around switchbacks in the mountains can get tricky with a long rig. I've been roads that limits rigs to total 40ft.

NOTE: Make sure your map database is up to date, and it is always a good idea to sanity check routes with the Rand McNally Truckers Atlas.
I own the Garmin 760 and too many times it warns me that it doesn't have accurate height data for the area I have entered! Not much help there.

I like the You-Tube video where the RV goes under a well marked 12 foot underpass and cleans his roof right off..air conditioners, vent covers, TV antenna, the whole shebang... Just like a knife through hot butter.... Gotta love it.

Interstates are all 13'6" or better unless marked and there are a few lower but well marked in advance.

Been in Chicago and seen a few underpasses with 10 foot clearance. I guess everything is shorter there....

And the last time you updated your maps was....?

(Hint: A map update came out a couple weeks ago )

Also, see my original post you quoted (NOTE: Make sure your map database is up to date, and it is always a good idea to sanity check routes with the Rand McNally Truckers Atlas.)

I never "trust in the force" in new areas without checking with Yoda (Rand McNally Truckers Atlas)

Parkways are not ment for commercial vehicles, but I would also avoid them with a vehicle over 9 feet.

The spec sheet says mine is 13'2. I wonder if that's before or after the 16" wheels?

I had been in Atlantic City and was on my way home. I put in a route to avoid to turnpikes and use back roads. That route included crossing the Delaware River on the Commodore Barry bridge (toll). Took me a while to figure out why Garmin kept altering the route to go north of Philadelphia... DOH!

Still, better than nothing.
I was looking at this - have you used it with google navigation?
How does that work?

I'm cheap and I like to use my phone nav (android phone).
You guys have turned me paranoid about low crossings now.

Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas

I purchased the just released 2018 Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas based on recommendations on this forum - don't recall if it was this thread. I am seriously disappointed with the atlas. I am actually surprised considering the average age here - the maps are so small that even with a magnifying glass, very little information is available. I'll just stop at the welcome station to states to get their state's map that will be readable with information.

I was mostly interested in the "low" height obstructions, but all that is there is a short list with most of those items not even shown on the map. What a waste, $18 loss, not going to return.

I have to agree with you on the Atlas; I was disappointed as well. We kept it to use for maybe the broad outline of a trip, bet there is not enough detail in the maps to be of use to us.

FYI Garmin bought DeLorme Maps. They are considered to have one of the best mapping data bases in the world.
If you own a Garmin 760....just update your maps and you'll be amazed with the difference. The front section of the RM Motor Carrier atlas list all the low bridge hts by state
