Calling all Maine(iacs)

My wife is considering a big job just north of Augusta, Maine. We'd be moving from SW Virginia where we've been for 17 years. We think we are ready for a change and it would be a good time for the kids to move as they are just at Jr high age. Interested to hear thoughts on living up there. Other than the longer winters and black fly season, what's it like?

Thanks for your input!

MoonStomper,

I spent many a summer up here as a kid. My family had a "camp" on a lake north of here. I moved to Maine more than twenty years ago, I will never leave! Folks up hear are the some of the friendliest you will ever meet. There are things to do year round. As you already know, the winters can be tough by Southern standards, but they are not that bad. You cannot beat summer and fall.

Except for the Portland area restaurants are not the best, but that is changing quickly. But local seafood....that is another story!!! What more can I say????? I love this place.... does it show!!!!

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Gary

P.S. I forgot to say there is some great camping!

Thanks Gary, I read your post to the kids and I'm sure it will help their preconceptions if the Good Lord sends us that way.
