Calling the weight police

Been a member of this forum for quite some time. I need some help to determine if my current tow vehicle can tow my new rig. Here are the specs:
RV 2000 KZ Sportsman fiver model 2751
GVWR 7000 lbs UVW 5045
NCC 1955
Another number that says #7442
Fresh Water Carry Capacity 36 gal. total water weight 299.88 lbs.
Tow Vehicle Info:
1999 Ford F-150 ext cab xlt 4.6 Triton 355 gear ratio 2 wheel drive. Door sticker GVWR 6550.
My question is this: Can I tow with the ford? Even if just to get it to a seasonal site. For an upgraded tow vehicle would we be able to get a newer f-150? Was looking the other day at a 2007 f-150 GVWR 7500 - 8000 lbs. or do we need a f-250? Really dont have a lot more dollars for tow vehicle right now but also dont want to purchace less vehicle than i need. Couple of other peices of info. We live and would be towing in southeast MI. Also hubby "beefed up" the coil springs in the f-150 recently. Thanks in advance for your help.

Come on I know some one out there can do better than this. These tables and calculators on line lead me to believe that even a 2007 f-150 will not tow this.

I am not the weight police, but I will say that the beefing does nothing to increase the axles capacity.

Look at the half tons with a camper or tow package, two wheel drive, gasser, regular cab.

Just finished a trip where my brother-in-law was towing a very small toy hauler (18 ft) with only 1 motorcycle inside. When he CAT weighed his numbers were under the tow specs by about 10%. His TV is a 2004 Silverado with 128,000 miles. The truck has been well cared for and all maintenance done over the years. But we now know, it was just too old and too many miles. He left Houston on a Wednesday, made it to Amarillo on Thursday. By the time he made it to Albuquerque, his transmission was shifting extremely rough. Long story, he had it checked in Albuquerque and ended up having to have a new (rebuilt) transmission installed and a week later he had to have his trailer towed by someone else back to Houston. The point of all this is that 1/2 ton pickups older than 10 years might not be a good idea even if it's a fairly light weight TT.

Fords posted guidelines for that model year list max trailer weight at 6900 pounds with automatic transmission. Combined gross weight is 11100 pounds. You need more truck or less trailer, sorry.

Although your 5er is fairly lightweight & "1/2 ton towable" its high profile creates a lot of wind resistance... Therefore the 4.6 Triton is going to struggle & once you add gear the heavier tongue weight of your 5er will also likely surpass your truck's payload...

However, we are also camping on a budget & IMO if you are just moving it to a seasonal site you can always drop it off mostly empty & then bring your heavier gear on a 2nd trip. If I were you I would add an affordable hitch to your current truck, tow it to a weigh station (empty) and see where the actual numbers are.

Later, when you have more funds to upgrade your TV, you can look at more capable trucks. IMO 1/2 ton trucks setup for max towing are pricey & hard to find used... IMO there are some good deals to be found on 3/4 gas trucks, especially if you do not need one with leather seats & all the bells & whistles...

In 2013 I found a 2 year-old (2011) Ram 2500 ST (stock) w/5.7 Hemi for $14K which was a lot less than same-year 1/2 tons setup for towing like the F150 Ecoboost, Nissan Triton, etc. It also had the balance of Ram's powertrain warranty whereas all of the 1/2 tons we looked at were out-of-warranty... My 2500 has a 3,000 lb. payload which allowed me to add a fiberglass cap to keep our firewood, bikes, etc. dry on the way to the CG.

The concerning part I see is the 3200 lb. RAWR on your truck.

7000 lb. 5er would be around 1500 lb. pin weight and that doesn't take into account the hitch weight would also add to it.

IMO you need more truck.

So if we are thinking that our current ford will not cut the numbers how about the 2007 Ford F-150 5.7L Triton V8 4x4?

4x4's typically have lower tow ratings than comparably equipped 2WD versions due to the added weight of the transfer case and front drive components.

A newer (post 2010) year truck will have the payload you are looking for.

I don't know if anyone has ever said this but trying to figure all this out is very stressful.

True about most things in life though.

If you "don't know and don't want to" you open yourself up to being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people at every turn.

On the other hand, some say Ostriches are very happy birds....

I had a 2014 f150 ecoboost with max tow and all the towing options. It had an 11300 pound towing capacity. I have a 7849 pound empty weight tt and the f150 struggled to pull the tt on any kind of hilly/mountain terrain. Even if you are somehow able to make your numbers work, you are not going to be happy with how your truck pulls your trailer.
