Campgrounds in Al

So I have a job offer in jasper, al. I don't know much about the area, on the map it shows smith lake fairly close. I was wondering if any of the alabamians could tell me where some nice campgrounds are in the area with lakes and nice playgrounds. Any info on jasper in general would be nice also.

We live outside B'ham. but I'm fairly familiar with campgrounds since I've been involved with Boy Scouts. Smith Lake Park is nice but don't go without reservations. All the state parks are nice. We love Desoto Park near Fort Payne in NE Ala but it's closed for the next 6 months due to renovations. Cheaha Park is also nice. It's the highest point in Al and has nice campgrounds in mountains. Just don't go to any campgrounds without reservations. This state loves to camp. We are supposed to pick up our new Puma TH tomorrow. This is our first RV so I can't speak about RV hookups and or service yet as we don't have experience. I actually found a pull through site available next weekend (Memorial Day) about 50 miles away for our first trip. Campground is on the river with 140 pull through sites. Can't wait.
