Camping near St Louis MO

Travelling in 3 weeks from Ontario to Mesa.
first stop( no blowouts) will be St Louis MO .
Any suggestions for campgrounds just before or just after?
Thanks
Also, many thanks for advice I've received getting my rig ready for the trip.

What are you looking for in a campground? We stayed at the Casino Queen RV Park. It was basically a parking lot with some stone gravel between the sites. No picnic tables nor fires. But the water, electric, and sewer were good.

Pretty awesome view of the arch from there and daily a "geyser" shot off from a park just over the tree lines on one side. Small playground there. Close to the highway. And, the trains legit ran all day and all night.

Here are my pics from St. Louis- campground included.

On our way there, we stopped at Double J Campground in Springfield, IL. It was only a couple of hours away. Very close to the highway, but very friendly people. They have some nice tree cover, a cute minigolf thing, and super long sites. Laundry was clean and cheap.

I have a friend that camps near St Louis a lot. If you have dogs... ask about the rules. Some parks can not or will not let you walk your dog inside the park.

Man, there is no way I would walk a dog outside the St. Louis RV Park, especially at night.

Campnqueen, I think you missed seeing the misspelling in your post #3…unless you know folks who walk really walk their DONG!!

If you're coming into St. Louis from the north on I-55, check out Red Barn Rendezvous at Exit 23. Nice, clean park run by a terrific couple, and surprisingly quiet for being right on the highway.

If you're going out of St. Louis on I-44 toward Tulsa, look at either the Eureka/Six Flags KOA just off of I-44 in Eureka on old Highway 66, or at Pin Oak Creek just off of I-44 at the US 50 Jefferson City exit.

If you're going west from St. Louis on I-70 (not exactly the most direct way to Mesa) then cross the Mississippi on I-270 (Chain of Rocks Bridge), then take Highway 370 west on the north edge of St. Charles and consider the 370 Lakeside RV Park at Exit 2, run by the City of St. Peter. From there, go west just two miles and pick up I-70, avoiding most of the St. Charles area traffic.

370 Lakeside RV Park

Agree. Great park easy access. Secure safe, dog friendly. Walkway around lake. Best place to stay near St. Louis. Reasonable rates.

If you are heading west, Meramec State Park is beautiful as are every other Missouri state park I have stayed in, usually just electric and dump station. Try RVparky.com or a similar site, there will be multiple choices with info.

Off topic but darn, Oakman, I grew up there, years prior to the RV park being there and that walking was done.

It is safe now... Just no fires "in the park".

Might be a bit out of your way, but we stayed in Cottonwoods RV park in Columbia, MO a couple years ago with our Roo. Nice place, but a little pricey. Pic attached. (Look down the row behind the bikes to see some of the other sites.)

I wouldn't stay in the St. Louis RV park. Not a good part of town. I suggest as someone else did the KOA in Eureka. About 30 minutes west of St. Louis and right off hwy 44. There is also Babler state park which is about 15 miles from Eureka. It's cheaper and really quiet .

Going down i-44.

There is a KOA and a Jellystone in Eureka MO just outside STL. Meramec state park and also Onondaga (which is one of my faves) a bit farther out.

Haha We are at St. Louis RV Park right now. Its most definitely NOT a destination campground. We picked it due to location and only for location. No I would bring a pet here. But it meets our needs.
