Not to mention "unable to understand traffic signals" and I think you know what I mean.

He figured he’d be OK, he remembered seeing that TV commercial where a Toyota Tundra was towing the space shuttle.

It's quite possible that the boat owner new very little if anything about trailering heavy loads which is why they hired pros and trusted they knew what they were doing.

A Cigarette Auroris with 5 engines is 20,000 lbs., most are a lot less. I'm guessing the weight might have been 19,000 lbs. rather than 19 tons.

It looks like a ball hitch trailer, so if that is the trailer for that boat the 38k weight is way wrong. Seems like a situation of many things wrong with equipment and driver. Too bad he isnít from California, they give licenses to anyone citizen or not.

Especially after all but one charge is plea bargained away, usually down to the lowest charge on the list.

[QUOTE=Not sure where the 38K came from, 44' cigarette boat should be 10K-12K which is in RV range.[/QUOTE]

Operator could have been using one of those fancy hydraulic adjustable trailer rigs. They have many arms that support the boat, can be fully submerged and lengthened to twice their length. One of those rigs could weigh 6-10k, but I doubt 20k.

There's a link at the bottom of the first post that includes a picture of the trailer.

Ain't too fancy...

Sounds like we need the equipment maintenance police. No trailer brakes, loose wheels, brake fluid may have been old, absorbed moisture and boiled.

This is a sad example of what can happen when towing a trailer and not understanding how to do it safely.
Don't boat trailers usually have surge brakes? Electric brakes tend to get unhappy when they are submerged....

The surge brakes have a spring breakaway actuator. I had that on my boats. I had to convert it to electric over hydraulic because the downgrade from home to the lake would overheat them as it was always pushing on the truck keeping the surge master cylinder activated.

Lived in Reno 3 years and have been up and down that hill numerous times. That's a looooong way down with no trailer or engine brakes. If the boat weighed 19K and the trailer 10K that comes to 29K and is probably well past the the max tow rating on that Ford F-350 DRW. I find it astonishing that he didn't have trailer brakes either. That trucking company owner is probably in a lot of trouble too, given it was his driver. Just because you "No habla" isn't an excuse.

I've seen people towing down a long, steep grade riding their brakes and not using the engine to slow everything down. It isn't pretty.
