Canadians escaping the cold?

An interesting read, ship your RV across the broader and fly to the USA. A loophole you can drive an RV through! https://www.motorbiscuit.com/canadia...ajor-loophole/

As the article says, it may be only a short time until the Canadian Government steps in and plugs the loophole.

It may be relatively easy for Canadians to get into the US through the loophole but will they be able to get back in the spring without a quarantine?

That was my question. How do they get the RV back if the border is still closed? Have it shipped again?

Canadians that have NEED to be in the U.S. can fly there presently.
Canadians CANNOT drive across the border if it’s deemed “Non-essential”.
Yes....if you’ve got the money, you CAN have your RV shipped across the border from companies performing vehicle transport already, then fly across and reclaim it. Yes you would have to have it shipped across the border again upon returning to Canada.

Regardless, when Canadians return to Canada, their are strict rules that they IMMEDIATELY enter into quarantine for 14 days.

How do they determine if the NEED is essential, in order to fly to the US? Is the NEED to escape Canadian winters essential?
And how do they enforce the 14 day quarantine ?

There are contact numbers within Canadian Government Border Services.
I have no need, so I canít answer your questions.
Enforcement is being dealt with at local levels with formation provided by Canada Customs.

The same restrictions apply to Americans trying to enter Canada by vehicle.

Yep, very aware of that since I live about 45 minutes from the border.

I would imagine there's a pretty hefty charge for transporting the RV across the border along with Customs Brokerage Fees.

Funny this shows up just after I talked to a friend who lives in upstate NY. He told me this is exactly what's going on. RV is shipped just south of the boarder and the owner flies into Plattsburgh, NY to pick it up. I imagine the same is going on all along our common border. And who can blame them. I like going south for the winter too.

Canadians who have had their RV/vehicle shipped to the US this fall will have no issue returning in the spring.

They will be able to enter Canada subject to existing COVID-19 protocol and quarantine provisions at the time of entry. How their vehicle got to the US is of no interest to Canada Customs.

The Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta currently had a rapid testing program which can shorten the initial quarantine to two days with a follow up test
seven days later.

The bigger question is why would someone potentially place additional burden on an already overloaded healthcare system simply to stay a bit warmer?

Stay home and stay safe. Winter sucks but getting COVID-19 is way worse

That's once you get across the bridge and through Stanwood, right?

Thanks for sharing.
This is disheartening thinking of our front line workers and others both sides of the border.

Actually since we're retired, we know when the traffic surges happen and we avoid them. And we go north the back way to Mt Vernon.

That's practically going right by my Daughter's house. She lives just off 300th NW and up the hill from Pioneer Highway.

Fly down, fly home, quarantine for 2 weeks, no big deal.... it's the health insurance you better get, and read the fine print! A week stay in a U.S. hospital could cost you your life savings...staying home this year, thanks...

Interesting that you mention this because my daughter lives in Toronto and she told me just this past week that Canada is on full lock down again and the police up there are ticketing people this time around.
