Carbon Monoxide concerns from generator exhaust

I'm planning to carry a 100 lb generator while traveling with my new Rockwood Ultra Lite 5th wheel. My preferred method was to do this at the rear bumper location but all the negative posts on this location has me concerned about bumper failure and warranty. The next best option is in the back of my TV open bed area just inside the tailgate. This location leads me to ask; is there, or should there be carbon monoxide concerns when running a generator in the open truck bed located below the bedroom of my 5th wheel? Unloading and loading the generator while traveling is not an option. This would only be if the AC was being used in which case all windows and vents would be closed.

I had a hitch receiver welded to the frame of my 5ver. Use a 500lb receiver carrier for the genny and some other small items (locked down of course). Purchased 12 30apm cord to use from gen to my 5ver.

Works great and no worries about weak bumper.

I also had receiver hitch welded to frame of RV. I carry two 2000 watt generators on hitch carrier with no problems. If not generators, I use it for bike rack or tow a 10' trailer with ATV. Depends on what we are using RV for at that time.

Depends which way the wind is blowing if the bedroom window is open. Bedroom window not open, not a concern.

I also purchased two carbon monoxide detectors, placed one in bedroom and other in bunkhouse. I rather be safe than sorry.

Depends on what model Rockwood 5th wheel you have/choose.

Some, like the 8299BS have an extended rear frame that is made for hauling things back there.

Here's what I did on my Flagstaff 8529IKBS (sister to the Rockwood)

Check out a machine shop that does welding and they will fabricate and weld a rack for your back with supports welded to your frame. I did it 2 years ago and it only cost about $175. Good for upto 500#

I don't think I would run your generator directly under my bed room. I work at a race track and we have had some real tragedy's occur from generators. Even with your windows closed carbon monoxide can find it's way in.

I would not run a generator in either location. Two many variables on weather conditions to risk being that close to the RV. There are way too many places for CO to enter. I would bet your manual specifies a safe distance and yes that is for manufacturers liability reasons, but still a concern.

THANK YOU ALL - for your advice and the time you took to post your suggestions. Given your suggestions I've talked to a local welder/fabricator and scheduled an installation for a hitch to be added to rear of my 5er which will also add support to the rear bumper - I am also adding a carbon monoxide for extra safety.

Good. We had CO poisoning three times over the years. Once from a collapsed chimney and twice from a high tech but defective house heater. Having some brain damage from those incidents , the last two with CO detectors working, you chose the better option.

The first time my wife passed out on the kitchen floor and I was so wasted I couldn't get out of bed to help her. Don't mess with CO.
