Carpenter ants and a dog butt.

The wife, two dogs, and I are on week one of a 31 days trip.
3 days in Alabama were uneventful.
Upon arriving in North Carolina, I got everything set up and settled in. The next morning, carpenter ants were meandering around the bathroom and kitchen. After an extensive investigation, it was found that they had marched up the sewer hose into the valve compartment, excavated styrofoam from around the pipes and tank, and marched merrily in. I disconnected the sewer line and saturated everything with some spray. The next morning I vacuumed out about a hundred carcasses. I have had a few stragglers wandering the camper, but am hoping they didn't get farther in. I am not sure what they were after, no water leaks and no loose food, but I'm amazed at the speed they set out at and would hate to see what they could do with time.
Oh, then my dog got an impacted anal gland duct and had to have surgery.
Less steaks, more hot dogs.
All of this and camping still beats work.

The title of this thread was compulsive enough to ensure I read every word.

My hat is off.

Kill off those ants. Sorry to hear about the dog. From the cheap seats it sounds funny but I am sure it was not cheap. Lol...

Kill off those ants over and over....

Since they came up the sewer line, I figured an appropriate end would be to put each one I catch right back down it. 😁

Fire ants might have changed your outlook. Sounds like you are taking it all in stride.

From what the locals are saying, there is a bumper crop of carpenter ants this year. Maybe the rain after a few dry years. IDK.

Thank you thatguy for the afternoon giggle ~ but sorry about the dog, hope he/she gets better and the rest of your trip fairs a lot better (keep the ant spray handy though).

Use comet powder around tires and anything they can climb up. I did 5 Mo. In Florida with fire ants and had absoulty no problems, it works.

Thread read guaranteed read

X2 that my reading this thread was guaranteed by the title.
Factor in that I was already curious about what the carpenter ants did to the rig but the dog angle really got me. And then I was wondering just how the poor dog was affected by the little critters...

Parked for 2 nights in a CG in Mississippi and didn't notice the black ants when I hooked up, but when I went to disconnect they were crawling up the power cord all the way up the side of the RV. Sprayed everything but, We were killing ants inside for weeks!!!

Just spent a week "out west". The park in Las Vegas, a fancy one (Oasis RV), had a caveat on their sign in. Something like "Las Vegas has ants. Take precautions".

Ants and roaches........I fear they are going to band together someday, and we'll be toast.

Carpenter ants

Put some Vaseline on your Power extension cable.
They will not pass that line.

I guess that would work on the sewer hose too.

That does not work. Have a shepherds hook with hummingbird feeders on it and I put a thick layer 2 foot long of vaseline around the shank. Lasted for 3 days before the ants were happily walking across to the nectar. What I found that works is to get cinnamon oil and mix with the vaseline or make a moat with water and a drop of dish soap.
