Carpet has got to go

My 2015 Flagstaff 8528IKWS has a mix of vinyl and carpet. The carpet has got to go. It's nasty.
I pulled a floor vent and as I expected there is vinyl under the carpet. Looks like they laid a big sheet of vinyl down and built the RV on top. There is nothing under the carpet except plywood on the slides.
Does anyone know how the transitions from carpet to vinyl are installed?
Has anyone installed vinyl or laminate flooring in their RV?
I've been in the building biz for over 40 years and it just doesn't look problematic which raises a red flag. Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance

Larry

The carpet is usually folded and then stapled down.

Several people have replaced the carpet with Allure laminated flooring. It's thin so it works good in RV's.

If you custom order a ft you can specify minimal carpeting

That is just what you have, when you pull the carpet up you will then pull staples for a day. They staple it all over just not the edges. Not a big deal but time consuming. Also there is no pad.

How it's built

As near as I can figure, the (older) process was:
  • Get Frame
  • Attach 3/4" plywood out to the full width
  • Unroll sheet vinyl covering 100% of the plywood and staple at the edges
  • Build 2z2 stud walls and attach
  • Build entire roof by attaching 1x2 ribbon to ends of roof trusses, attach ceiling, then entire assembly onto stud walls
  • Apply roof decking, siding, roof membrane and trip
The new process may change the 2x2 stud walls for aluminum and change the 3/4" plywood floor for a sandwich of 3/16" plywood, foam, and more 3/16" plywood.

In the 2002 Nash I'm rehabbing, I used a sharp utility knife to cut the vinyl at the base of the walls and cabinet and lift it out. It wasn't held by adhesive anywhere. I was going to replace it with laminate flooring but DW opted for 12" x 12" place-and-press vinyl tile.

DH replaced the flooring in our motorhome. It was a mix of vinyl and carpet. We elected to go with a quality vinyl. Time consuming but not a difficult job. Most time consuming is pulling the 100,00 or so staples. He made a paper template of the floor and transferred it to the vinyl. Two years of our crazy Canadian temperature swings and it's still great. Love the ease of cleaning especially with a dog.

Larry, we have the same unit. I will be very interested to hear and/or see how the replacement of the carpet goes. For me, the wear that is most concerning is in the slide with the dining table, then on the opposing side (kitchen to sofa). I look forward to hearing good things!

I pulled mine up and the only "pain in the butt" was self induced...
I removed the cabinet that holds the Fuse/CB Panel, converter and power cord in order to remove the carpet from under it out too. Could have cut around it, just chose not to.
I was able to pull the carpet from under the wall with little effort and only the outside edges were stapled...many, many, very small staples. Very easy to pull and the holes are not noticable unless you crawl around looking for them.
Added quarter round trim to finish it up. All in all, the entire mod probably took 3 hours. We like the way it looks and very easy to keep clean.

Carpet has got to go

Well....pulled up the carpet and discovered that the vinyl stops about 2 feet short of the back wall so will have to do a new floor. Not a problem but the carpet in the kitchen slideout in front of the stove/reefer is gone. I'll have to put new flooring down there but the transition between the slideout and the floor will be a problem.
Anybody got a camper with hard floors everywhere? How are the slideout transitions done?

I'll have to get creative.

I'm going to do mine also. Google replacing/ upgrading a RV floor. You will see several good articles and U-tube vidios.
