I use Calgon water softener treatment. Its sometimes hard to find, but WallyWorld usually has it in the detergent/dish soap area. I put a capful in my black and 2 gray tanks. It makes the water more "slippery" and "stuff" doesn't hang up on the plastic tanks as readily.
