Cigarette butts
Minor complaint
It seems like those who smoke think that either the ground around camping spot is there personal butt can.
Sometimes the fire pit is there's also. Who wants to eat cooked butt's.
I Wish they would put the butts out then throw them away correctly

It’s not just at campsites.

I spent last summer working at a busy campground. You wouldn’t believe some of the things people leave in fire pits.

Not cool, inconsiderate of others at the least to throw in the fire pit. Many campers like to cook over an open fire. I know for a fact that park staff doesn't clean out pits after each site rental. A good ash bed is ok, cig butts and other garbage not so much.

Nothing quite like having your morning coffee at the picnic table and having the smell of burning plastic wafting in the air. Even a few dark smudges of soot floating by.

I just do not understand why people smoke! It is no secret that tobacco is very bad for you and actually shortens your life span by as much as 10 years. Not to mention how expensive cigarettes are these days.
There are many ways to quit the nasty habit easily. Wonder why the cigarette companies no longer talk about low tar? That was one way folks quit smoking. Moving to lower and lower tar cigarettes until they were smoking almost nothing. My DW did that and never went back.
For your health and the respect for everyone else, quit!

Yep , it’s hard, after smoking 20 years I quit with the help from a prescription which effected my thyroid. Now I’m on a prescription for my thyroid.
But I agree that butts should be cleaned up.
Also stop burning trash in fire pits! Every campsite I visited last year has remnants of trash in the fire pit.

Unfortunately, these topics and these threads have no solution.
They are simply complain-fest threads.
Folks don't care and especially when they are only visiting for a short time.
As on poster said... it isn't just at the campsites and it isn't just cigarette butts.
People park on the grass when they are not to.
People lay their sewer hose on the picnic table and rinse it off.
People permanently connect to shared water hydrants.
People throw bottle caps and tabs everywhere.
People set charcoal grills on picnic table and burn or melt them.
People leave bright lights on 24/7
Non Handicapped folks park in the HC parking spot at the bathhouse
And I could go on...
Welcome to the camping life!

Much more difficult. It becomes more automatic to light up without even thinking about it. I was able to quit using an ecigarett. But prior to that, I tried the patch, left me a rash, gum, but not a big gum chewer, and a prescription which put me into a depression state.
Thankfully I did quit but still miss it. For those who never got into the habit, good for you. But don't comment on it without better information and understanding.

We just spent a week in a large group area in our favorite state park (City of Rocks NM). We all commented on how clean it was. I found one cigarette butt near a gazebo. Used to be there were hundreds everywhere.
We had a discussion of how it is rare and even surprising to see someone smoking now. So hopefully we will see less butts on the ground everywhere.
Our city passed an ordinance against plastic bags a few months ago. It is amazing how it has already cut down on the amount of 'Walmart wind socks' you see flying around.
Small steps. Social pressure.

No NO go on maybe they will be shamed enough to stop but I doubt it. Just like the women that walk their dogs in the morning using the vacant spot next to me for their dogs bathroom. As I drink my morning coffee at the picnic table I would witness this and holler " you going to pick that up" and they just walk away. One husband came back and said what did you say to my wife in a threating way. They`ll never change, you know who you are.

OK...
Folks walking their dogs and letting them do their business anywhere but the dog park. Even if they do "clean" it up there's still crap in your site.
Folks who leave their yapping dogs in the R/V all day yapping while gone.
Folks 'slamming' their compartment doors at all hours of the night.
Folks who come south in the winter with diesel trucks that are set to start every 4 hours (and don't disable that feature) bringing you out of bed at midnight and 4:00 AM, EVERY NIGHT!
Folks who insist on streaming tv (or trying) so there's no WIFI for anyone else.
Folks who allow their kids to run/ride bikes through your campsite and run wild at the pool and on the roadways.
Folks who use the bathhouse and believe the entire bathhouse is their private bathroom.
Folks who use the campground laundry and then go back to their site and leave clothes in there for hours.
Folks who spend an hour at the dump site flushing their black tank.
Folks who put up screen shelters or pop-up canopies partially on your site and then look at you and say "I'm sure you don't mind, you don't have anything there!"
Folks who must start their campfires with the RULES handout they received when checking in.
A lot of folks are in their own world, oblivious to anything/anyone around them. You can't teach them or fix it.

The problem is that most of the people that do that stuff, are not members here.
You're simply preaching to the choir.

These threads should be locked. All they do is allow people to gripe and complain while creating a significant difference in opinion. In fact it’s so significant people take other peoples opinion personally….go figure.

Once my camper is set up the next step is to go check the fire pit and the camping area for butts and any dog mess. Always something to clean up.

Cigarette butts
This year we ordered a telescopic folding rake to help with campsite clean ups, mostly for leaves and fire wood chopping mess, but works for butts.
